My first corals!!

I use bone cutters. Careful their sharp. U can get em on amazon or ebay
D

If I have to wait for Amazon or Ebay, I might as well just take a run to the LFS tomorrow and get a rack.

I wish I had known they would be this small... I have waited weeks to get this order, I could have ordered a rack a long time ago and been prepared.

In other news: Most of the frags look healthy (I think)... The GSP one looks dead however. I'm not sure...

One thing that I am unhappy about is that while they did label the bottles, they gave the most basic general names. I have no idea exactly what I got. The "Bonus" coral for instance, simply says "Bonus". For all I know, it could be a chunk of shoe leather.. hahaha

Post a pic, I'm sure we can help you out. And never throw anything away, even if you think it's dead. You'd be surprised what these things can come back from. I always leave skeletons in my tank for at least 6 months.

Well heck!!! So now I have a new issue... The peppermint shrimp I've had in my tank for weeks, went after the Trumpet coral with a vengeance!!! I mean literally "straaaiiinnnn Ploink!!" Ugghhhhh!! He roams the tank bigtime at night.. I don't know where to place this poor frag where it will be safe...

Ok guys.. here are the first pictures of my new corals... I did not include the Xenia one cause I know what that is.. lol

First up is the GSP frag... Looks like it's dead to me...

Next one is labeled as "Zoa" It looks dead too :-(

Third is labeled "Paly"

This one is the "Bonus" coral. I am guessing it is some kind of leather. It actually has a cool neon green color to it that I kinda like...

This next one is the Trumpet... I didn't get a shot of it before the above mentioned shrimp got ahold of it.. but this is what I still have now...

And lastly, here is the Acan I got... this one looks pretty cool.. I dig the colors...

I realize they are all closed up so getting any ID on them right now is best guess.. I will post more pics if and when they open up (assuming of course my pestermint shrimp hasn't eaten them all to the plugs by morning)...

Ok dont hate me for this. Lol.
1st plug is gsp probably.closed up still. Give time.
2nd one looks empty. Nothing but algae.
Yes palys
Platygyra bonus. Maze brain coral.
Shrimp ate some of your duncan or euphyilla coral?
Last one is the coolest and i like it a lot. Looks like a favia.

The 5th picture is labeled as "Trumpet" it was listed as "Candy Cane" on the original listing.

The last one IS cool.. I like that one too..

I think you are right, and wrong.. lol

Here are the full sized pictures I took of the frags.

The GSP does look like its closed up and to the naked eye looks dead.. but as you can see in the pics, it actually does look alive... Same thing for frag 3... the Zoa looks dead in the previous pic, but under magnification it appears to be a 2 head frag of some unknown Zoa???

GSP

Zoa? Notice the 2 heads on the upper right? Or, am I dreaming? lol

As long as the GSP's mat is still purple, it's alive. They can pout for a few days if they've been stressed, but they are very hard to kill.

The zoas might still open up. They'll completely melt away once they've died.

The palys look okay. And the acan looks great. That's a nice piece.

The trumpet (aka candy cane) looks more like a ticked off torch or frogspawn to me. Both of them are euphyllia, and I don't have a great history of keeping those, so don't beat yourself up if it doesn't make it.

As for the bonus piece, I'm scratching my head. It doesn't look like a leather to me. Is the base hard or soft? It almost looks like a montipora to me, but it's hard to tell in this pic. Can you get one with whiter lights?

Oh yeah, you nailed it.

And to the OP, are you feeding that shrimp? I've never had a peppermint pester my corals before.

Until today this has been a fish only setup. I have been feeding Ocean Nutrition Prime Reef Flakes as long as I have had livestock in the tank.. (About a month now). I haven't seen any signs of underfeeding at all. Quite the opposite actually.. I bought an auto feeder last week and realized yesterday that I was actually feeding FIFTEEN times as much as I was feeding before... DOH!!! Read the instructions stupid!!

Flakes tend to float around and may be difficult for a shrimp to catch. I'd throw a few sinking pellets in there too just to make sure he gets something. That might keep him away from the corals.

OK.. Thanks for the suggestion.. I will try that. I hope my corals survive till I can get to the store... The Petsmart here in town has nothing (or at least very little) for SW fish supplies. I am probably going to have to drive either 40 miles north or 60 miles south to get what I need....
