Hello to all
So I started a fish tank. This is my first salt water tank. 0 experience.
10 gallon nuvo all in one.
It's about 5 months old.
So far so good.
Fish are alive. Corals are doing well.
And the water is clear.
Filter sock
Ghost protein skimmer
Chemipure Blue nano
And jebao sw-2 wave maker..pointed up to create turbulance.
So far in the tank...
- florecent tip torch 2 polyps
- 2 rock anemone
- candy cane with 2 polyps, 3 mouths
- green Duncan with 6 polyps, 1 is growing out of the frag slice.
- pulsing xenia colony
- neon damsel
- red fire fish goby
- Jack o lantern lepto encrusting over plug
- blood red shrimp
- some snails and hermits
- palythoa softy
- 2 snowflake clowns
- red Blastomussa with 2 heads.
- a green star poly colony I just upset real bad. I'm sure they'll be fine though.
- red flower pot frag
I'm still learning as I go but
Water changes every two weeks about 3 gallons with LFS salt water.
Top off with 4 stage R.O water.
No series algae issues.
I test for nitrates, phosphates, and some times the ammonia, and nitrite. They are usually undetectable by the kit I use. (Api). I also test Ph and it's usually between 8.0 and 8.2(Api)
I also test for Alk, Mag, and Cal. (RedSea).
I haven't been perfect though.
During the cycling stage I was experiencing constant evaporation for the first time.
Instead of using R.O water to top off I was pouring in more salt water.
It didn't dawn on me as to what I was doing until I realized I needed a hydrometer.
At that point I fell out of the tree as they say...
There have been some losses as well.
I knew there be, and my son took it well.
This all started because of him.
But I've been much more weary of the what it takes to maintain a small reef tank.
I thought it would be easy... turns out I picked the more difficult side of reef keeping.
Any and all advise or ideas are welcomed.
I've already convinced my wife about getting a bigger tank. But I want to perfect what I have now before I move on to a much larger tank.
Not yet, though.. not yet.
Thanks for reading, check out the pictures below.
Holla.
