So I lost my first jumper. My prawn goby. I had not seen him in a couple days and feared him dead . Not wanting him rotting in my tank I started moving rocks around and to no avail could not find him... no way he just disappeared so I checked behind my tank and found his dried up shriveled corps laying on the floor... sad day I thought I smelled something but being that I was scheduled to clean my thank in another day I figured it was just fish tank funk.. not the case.

I learned the hard way too. Wish I would have added the screen before any livestock.

Moving rocks around can lead to issue with algae and random die off. A medium or smaller sized fish will be quickly consumed in a completely cycled system.

If you don't see it then treat it's dead and move on.
Like Tahoe61 mentioned you will cause more trouble if you move thing around in your tank.

I lost a scooter blenny a clown and a Goby I now have a net over my tank
Although I’m bad when it comes time for maintenance I tend to leave the cover off when I’m changing water and emptying buckets

My fish never wander into upper part (water surface) in my tank they stay, cruising around at middle and rock works, I have a lot of water movement on the surface.
I dont use anything to cover my tank and none of fishes jump, might be too much water movement on the surface sacred them and keep them at bay?
I got royal gamma, kole tank, wrasse, firefish, banggai cardinal.

I had no clue.

I thought my orange spot prawn goby had died or jumped (when I had lid off tank) as he disappeared for about 2 weeks. Then poof he was back...like others say, let it be and move on. If you get up in there and start moving things around there's a good chance of injuring a fish, disturbing a pocket of something ichy and making other fish jump. This one I know from experience. I was moving rock in my previous tank, and didn't notice a gold assessor was missing. I had a full screen cover. Sure enough when I moved tanks he was all crispy around back. I do a head count now whenever I have been in the tank working on placing corals, or whatever.

The fish don't just jump, it's not a regular behaviour, it typically occurs if they are startled by you or another fish. Certain fish it's the instinct to jump. Wrasses for example are well known carpet surfers. Good luck, but most folks will tell you it's just a matter of time before you find one on the floor.

I was thinking the same with my warasse and then he showed back up. I was looking all over the floor too:) I had a matted filefish go floor surfing, I was bummed.

I use egg crate.i Lost a fish to carpet surfing and a cat raided my tank.
I use egg crate on top of my Artfully Acrylic lid, but it's there to keep my very curious kitten from busting through the screen and trashing the tank when I'm at work. LOL.

My tank is covered but i got a leopard wrasse which i had wanted since starting in the hobby and day 2 she found the small hole in the top. Found her on the floor 2 days later....
