Hello all! I am new here, although throughout the past 5 years of reefing I've spent hours and hours and HOURS on all these reef forums. I have recently had the chance to upgrade my system!
4 months up and running.
120g 48x24x24 display with bean animal overflow. Drains go through the wall into a big laundry room. In there I have a 55g sump on the bottom of a stand and a 40g refugium on top that gravity drains down to the sump again.
2 Kessil A360s
Apex Jr.
Skimz SM201 Skimmer
Jebao DCT12000 Return
(Still deciding what to do about flow, maybe one mp-40 or gyre150 to start and then add another later on, any advice on this would help too!)
With this new upgrade, I now have a lot more money invested and plan on doing things right the first time. After so much research everyone's opinions are so mixed on the topic of quarantine! Some people say a loooong QT is absolutely necessary and others say it's an old school train of thought, that it causes more stress and that simply purchasing from a reputable source is enough. Then there's the middle ground that say a simple 3-4 week QT with some meds and observation is enough. This goes for both fish and coral by the way.
So, what is everyone's routine for adding new stuff? Do you guys QT fish and coral in separate tanks? Different lengths of time?
