My first saltwater tank

So today I tested my newly prepared saltwater and it has nitrates between 50 and 25 (salifert) I am suspecting my RO unit and planing to get a DI filter.

A DI filter can only be a good thing. Of course, if you are a FOWLR (fish only, with live rock), my understanding is that fish aren’t as sensitive to higher nitrate levels as corals are. Keep us posted

I am also planing to keep some easy to keep, mostly soft and zoas, corals so I need to bring them down, I'll keep posting

So I am a bit confused her, are the nitrates 50 or in between 50 and 25? I did 3 separate tests

As I squint at that and try to see it, I'm seeing it as between 25-50... and probably leaning towards the 50 side of things. Good on you for testing multiple times, its always good to do that if a result is throwing you off.

I will add,

25-50 nitrates isn't entirely unreasonable, depending on how much die-off was on your rocks? But to have that in only two weeks, I would suspect as well you have nitrates in your source water, especially given you have no fish in the tank yet.

It is the source water, I need to upgrade RO with the DI filter, going to buy next water from my local shop.
