Last night the husband and I tested our water and found that we were a little low in Alkalinity and Calcium. We were already planning on doing our weekly water change so we proceeded to do so. After the water change he dosed to help bring up those low areas. I also had a Favia that was looking a little sad so I moved it to a new spot. Woke up this morning and the Favia had it's tentacles out for the first time that I have seen. (Still pretty new in our tank). When they fish came out for the morning snack we noticed that my Flame Angel's tail fin is starting to degenerate. It was NOT like that last night before the water change. Also noticed he has one white spot on one of his front fins. Could we have stressed it out from doing the water change and dosing last night? We've had it in our tank for probably 2 weeks and haven't noticed other fish picking on it. Husband thinks that maybe it could be fin rot? We checked the other fish in the tank and haven't seen any signs of sickness on any of them yet. Should we take the Flame Angel out and move it to quarantine???

My bet is another fish picking on him. What do you have in the tank?

Stress doesn't cause ich but it can exacerbate it.

If fins are "deteriorating" it could be flukes, a bacterial infection, or it may be getting bullied by another fish.

Ich (white spot) kills many flame angels.

You would need to take all fish out and quarantine and treat them with cp or cupramine/copper and leave the tank fallow 76 days.

Agreed with 3ford. A picture would help greatly as well.

We have an Azure Damsel, Black Ice clown and Black Snowflake clown, Neon Goby and a Diamon Goby.
Maybe the Damsel is starting to pick on him? The usually swim around together but maybe when the lights go out they get crazy!

I'll try to snap a picture tonight when I get home.

It will help. Damsels can be mean little suckers so hopefully that's all it is. 1 White spot could just be sand stuck to the fish. Keep an eye on it, but if its ick you will have to take all the fish out and treat in QT

^^This is very possible. I know my fish start to get aggressive with one another just before lights out. And damsels can be very aggressive in smaller aquariums. How big is your tank?

The "white spot on one of his front fins"... How large would you say the white spot is? The size of a grain of salt or something bigger?

My tank is 90g. The spot could easily be a grain of salt or even sand because it's that small.

If you only had the fish 2 weeks, it more than likely brought something in with it.
