My first sump and skimmer

Just be careful as Filter socks can and do overflow and from the pic it looks like if it would overflow you may have a big mess.

So how would you recommend that I run it? What do I put in place of the sock.

yeah that is a accident ready to happen. If you can get the top of the suck below the top of the sump say 1 inch. You will be good.

i could probably find a bracket to lower that sock a bit I suppose.

Yeah that is your best bet. Looks like you can tilt the top of the sock so that you can get the rim under the edge of the sump.

Ok I just compressed the ring a bit and and slid it down in the sump I have the bottom of white ring to the water line. It should be good now. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well.

You can buy a sock holder from BRS. Rather than use a sock that's too big and have to force it in.

After running the skimmer for 2 days I have a 1/4 cup full of nasty

It started off like a tea color now it's a dark green

I have another question...in the center chamber I have my live rock with my pod population. In between the second and third chamber I have a corse black filter pad. Will the pods make it trough that pad or should I move the live rock into the third chamber?

Darker is the better color. I think they can make it though a course filter pad.
