Hey guys, i just got my first tangs,
1x Tomini Bristletooth
1x Pulple
& 1x Blue

the tomini and purple do what they should do, in a search for algea, blue doesnt..
i got some "Formula two, marine pellets, from Ocean Nutrition" small pellets

Because of their small size, the Blue seems to have a problem with the pellets..

-Can i just crush them?
-Is that ok for all 3 tangs?
-And how much should i feed them, if feed at all as long as they find algea?

The Largest is the tomini, 3-3½ inch, incl tailfin

give nori (seaweed clips), some fish can be pickey with pellets, if your blue doesn't eat anything, check for any signs of ich or illness

Having 13 tangs happy to help. One question- what is age of the tank?
Tomini is very docile while purple and blue can be aggressive
Diet is very important and you will need much more than you are now feeding as they require fats, aminos and vitamins
Feed:
Spirulina brine shrimp
Mysis shrimp
Formula 2 flake
LRS herbivore diet
Hikari veggie diet
Hikari marine cuisine
Nori seaweed basted in garlic
Small plankton

Add selcon vitamins and garlic extract to the foods for immunity health and stamina
They’re stomach’s should not be sunken in
Here Some of mine:

I have a baby blue tang that is quite small. Perhaps 3 inches or smaller who absolutely loves the Formula 2 small marine pellets so I’d say it probably wouldn’t be an issue of size in your case. If you really want your tang to eat the pellets, just feed them every day until your blue tang starts eating them which is what I usually do and every fish I’ve done it with has eventually gone crazy for them. However, it may be the case that your fish isn’t interested and if it won’t make repeated attempts after a few days, it’s might not happen.

My tank is stil very new, about 7 weeks i think, this has all happened alot faster tahn i planned. is tangs was ordered 4-6cm (1,6-2,4 inch) only tomini arrived bigger, no idea why.. but thats why i figured there may be a size issue with the pellets, seen the purple try to take a few but can barely fit in mouth.

About the nori, thats sold as human food right ?
quick search leads me to healthcare stores, not animal.

added 2 pics, sorry about the quality, still trying to get rid of algea

maybe i just worry to much, was affraid they would starve to death if they didnt eat every day.

I just see just now that my tomini is busy picking algea of my glass, and its only 3 hours since i put him/her in the tank

Very good information here. Thank you. I do have a question. Why the garlic? Seems to be above and beyond what they would need naturally. Just curious.

Garlic helps boost the immunity system and selcon vitamins for vitality

I keep it simple and my tomini loves it. Each fish has a favorite but they usually eat it all. I don’t give it all together. I alternate.

San Francisco Bay frozen marine formula.
Hikari seaweed extreme pellets
Hikari marine s pellets
Omega 1 garlic marine flakes
Omega 1 freeze dried masks shrimp
Raw organic nori

Hrmmm, maybe not so simple but all available from Amazon and/or petco

I have to ask: how do you baste your nori in garlic? I soak mine in selcon -- do you take a brush and smear crushed garlic on your nori? Garlic oil? Garlic cloves?

I haven't seen the OP post in this thread in a while. Time for an update on those tangs!

-Spirulina brine shrimp
- LRS Herbivore diet
- mysis shrimp
- small plankton
- Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
- Hikari Marine cuisine
- Formula 2 flake and frozen
- Hikari veggie marine

Add selcon vitamins to the foods 2-3X per week and on alternating days, garlic extract for stamina and immunity health

When I first started feeding nori (on a clip), my tangs ignored it EXCEPT for my Kole who figured it out really quickly. The other tangs soon followed the example. You can try algae gut loaded frozen adult brine shrimp for your blue. I find that all of my fish eat frozen food pretty readily. Most get around to eating pellets but some don’t. My grazers all pick up on Nori. It helps to have multiple clips. That prevents one fish from hogging the food.
