My first tank ever!

ooo thats a good one i didn't think about that. I'll look into that battery back up pump. In terms of feeding, I was thinking about using just the brine shrimp cubes that I'm using now. Not exactly the healthiest but at least its vitamin enriched brine shrimp. Switching to every other day sounds like a good idea as well. I currently feed pellets to the Chromies in the morning (which only 4/5 eat) and then brine shrimp in the evening (which all of them love including the blenny!). Hopefully that will suffice for 3 weeks. Ill even have him broadcast feed a bit of zooplankton for the coral every now n then.

So I checked out that thread that went around in regards to automating daunting tasks etc., and it ended up selling me a RoboSnail! I ordered one and it should be here sometime next week. I mainly got it because Im going over seas for a while and dont want my sitter to have to clean the glass. Since its only a one sided deal ill either have to settle for 2 sides being filthy when i get back, or maybe having the sitter do one side. We'll see how it turns out.

I discovered a new fish place over the weekend called Le Aquatic. A bit far but an awesome place. A warehouse setup of mostly marine setups but some freshwater. Awesome fish, awesome corals, great quality NSW for cheap decent prices all around! Friendly staff as well. I ended up picking up a Cataphyllia! It settled in quite nicely

Loving that cataphyllia man! Oh, and I had a fun time in Australia! Met some Aussie's but didn't meet that keeper Aussie wife like you did. Haha.

I think one of my chromis fish is on its way out. Over the past few weeks it's gone progressively anti social, now he just wants to hide in corners and really just keep afloat and not really swim anywhere. Breathing very very heavily as well. Never partakes in the morning feed of pellets, only the evening feed of brine shrimp. he used to swim up to the top in the morning to check out the food but never eat it. Now he just stays at the bottom. This is that same one that's missing scales and I took to the LFS about a month ago and they said he was fine. Not quite sure what's ailing him but i'll be isolating him tonight. Poor little thing...

good and sad news:
sadly the Chromis didn't make it. It was totally only a matter of time given that he wasn't eating or swimming. Had to check my water after such events, ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 10. Not sure what happened =\

in better news my alveopora coral was doing horribly in the spot it was, even started bleaching a bit. So i moved it higher up wedged in between a rock and it came out more than it's ever been out before. also moved my helio fungia because my stombus snail wasn't getting to the other half of the tank and the substrate was turning all sorts of interesting colors. so I moved it to the highest point and not only does it flourish well there, the strombus was able to get to the other side and clean up the sand :) i'll post a pic later tonight.

Sad for your little chromis but it happens. Glad to hear that the alveopora seems to have found a happy place and that the fungia is flourishing. It can be tricky business finding just the right spot for each coral.

Tank is looking great!! :)

Love it! You changed your rock work around a bit, didn't you?

I lost my big alveopra during my rebuild. It was by far my most interesting coral. Glad to see yours doing well. Try a percula clown if you are still adding fish... Mine hosted in my alveopra and it was really cool. I know they are "ordinary" fish but they are really fun to watch when they find a host.

Thanks! Much appreciated.

Thanks! I moved one small rock on the left side to replace it with the alveopora (where it used to be anyway). That was a very small change. YOU sir, have a very keen eye! A clown was actually one of the next fish on the list to add when I get back in town. My chromies love wriggling around in it. My tank needs some red though. I may consider getting a nice red nem if I can find a good deal.

Just finished my own rock work... I have been sneaking peaks at everyone's set ups for ideas!

Get a small anenome to start... They can tend to take over. Mine got so big that it took over a whole half of a 75 gallon tank (280 l to you?) I'll see if I can find a picture. - it was almost comical it was so big.

Just a warning as your tank looks so nice now.

I thought I was subscribing to your thread but it turns out I wasn't! I am now. Loving your new rock work btw. Keen to see those nem pics if you ever post them!

I will have to find the photo at work. I can't find it at home. As it got larger, it seemed to lose its pink/peach color and ended up kind of tan - it also lost its bubble tips. But it was still really cool. If I had the money or space, I would have put it in a species tank.

Check these out. It started out around the size of a baseball and ended up this big in about 3 years. This is in a 24" tall tank (60cm?)
