My first thread...simple 10g set up

Hey all!! My first post/thread/anything here. I got into the hobby about 8 months ago and have been reading buying stuff ever since.

anyway...

I shut down my last tank because I did everything wrong. Usual story. So...a few days ago I removed clown, blenny, and skunk shrimp from my ill kept 45 gallon into a 10 gallon, until i get something bigger.

so here is what i am working with;
10 gallon tank
aquaclear 20 filter
heater
small powerhead

i have a tunze 9004 protein skimmer and led lights as well but haven't started it yet because from what I've read i should wait until after cycle to start skimmer/lights

so my 3 questions;

1. I am getting an ammonia spike and am in the process of cycling. and am just running a aqua clear 20 at the moment. when should i start to run skimmer?

2. similar question...when should i start to run my lights?

I know a 10 is small but i am not adding anything else and will be giving these guys a bigger & better home in a few weeks.

1) You don't need a skimmer until you have livestock.
2) same as above

What r u running in your AC20? It should be just the sponge and media for right now; no carbon.
