So, I’ve acquired a 75g tank and stand (and LOTS of freshwater accessories that the guy was getting rid of), and want to do saltwater... I’m doing research, and annoying many people with my questions

Here’s what I have, other than my current lack of saltwater tank knowledge:
-75g tank aka “blank canvas” (external measurements 48”x18”x20”
-beautiful black stand for the tank.
-true desire to have a beautiful saltwater aquarium.

Here’s what I’m still researching, and trying to decide on:
-Sump tank, with room for growth (I.e. refugium)
—looking at crystal sump 30 or a 20g tank from Petco ($1/g days) with a DIY baffle kit
-HOB overflow box
-Return pump
-Skimmer (so many options )
-Lights (chaeto & coral)
-wave makers (again, many options)

you help, guidance, and input is greatly appreciated.

If you are going the sump route, bigger is better. You will have more room for equipment, more water volume=more stability. Invest in an rodi, and good test kits. And patience.

Woohoo! Today I was able to score a sump and skimmer for $200!
This is definitely a slow build, but I’m taking my time, and loving all of the ideas on r2r

Definitely a good start

i would drill it too but most likely your tank has tempered glass which makes it super hard to drill. some people say its easy and some say it can not be done. there is always the risk of shattering the glass. with tempered glass the risk is just that much higher. really it all depends on how good you are with a drill and a diamond hole saw 1 inch or 1.25 inch in diameter.

if your not scared trying to drill tempered or even non tempered glass id say go for it.
