My gf did it again.

Hi I have 3 red sea sponge trees that I've had for years they're pretty big now but I did take them out of the bag underwater but they are in light so I'm not sure if that's exactly true they only get their nutrients from the flow in the water and they do like a lot of flow.

Wow thanks a lot ! Do you have a tank online profile ? Or can I ask you a couple questions about your setup?

You can ask anything ask away..
I don't have a profile yet but I do have a post on there a question I would say about my 55 gallon bow front that my boyfriend cut it was an acrylic tank he was trying to make the holes bigger and it was just a complete disaster I have a 75 gallon tank now which is glass and everything I transferred from the 55 survived including my sponges. Even my pods made it. I really should get on that profile thing.

Interesting to see familiar names with great advice.
Congrats and good luck with the sponge.
... give it 2 or 3 weeks, honesty in reefing here, as soon as I saw the colour start to fade I knew it was game over and that it had been exposed to the air at some point in it's journey!
I am fragging bits but the sponge is still letting go even though I have been removing zoas.
I hope yours had a safer journey. :)

When I bought mine , there was a part in the hole of a rock (to hold it) where the sponge looked dead to me it was white and brittle... and the part sticking out in full light on top was superb! I dont know if it has to do with the part in the rock not getting enough water flow ... but thats why i'm still wondering about red tree sponges being photosynthetic or not... I did place parts of it in different environnements , it was too big anyway becose I run only nano aquariums ... but given time and care , If even one part survives, that means I did my job to keep the strand alive :)

Well , for instance , do you have sand and any critter that mix it around ? What is your feeding habit? Any other filtering critters in the tank ? This night I did a nightmare loll I dream about doing a water change and the sponge was sticking out of water lol...

All the of the information I found was that they do better in shady or dark areas for the spider sponge anyways.

All I know is I have two 24"quad fluorescents 3 Atannic and one daylight in each I do half (just blue) for the 1st part of the morning then combo daylight till about maybe 9 o'clock PM I don't turn on the lights till maybe 9 o'clock am and I also have moonlight led built in.

I had a red tree sponge for around a year before moving the tank lots my corals in the holding QT tank. I blame the cat...OK it was my fault for not putting a lid on it.

anyway back to sponges like any coral there are many types photosynthetic and non. if she love em there are some nice plating blue and red ones that are photosynthetic.

I belive the red tree sponges eat dissolved organics. I was does a few drops of sponge power from time to time not sure if it did anything or not. I think they do getter in higher nutrient tanks, however this is just a guess I all so think they need med to good slow not crazy but water movement.

I hope to be setting up another tank some time after the new year I will have about 5 red tree sponges along with gorgs.

The only thing I dont like though is they are huge for my nanos ! haha

Hope the sponges work out for you! Cool critters for sure!
Thank you very much they have been for years now I just upgraded to these sponges maybe 6 months ago when I changed to the new tank. Since your A staff member, I'm having problems doing a profile... figure I should do one by now I've been a member for a while but I chime in only once in a while. Very New to this social media stuff so I hope everyone bears with me. So where exactly is the profile page how do I locate it when I look at my own account?Lol lol I know I hear the laughter out there.
