My hair algae is HORRIBLE
All over, thick and long

I pull most of it out, it comes right back

my whites and reds on my light are off, and snails only go on the glass, crabs kill snails and wait for me to feed fish, and my urchin just goes on the glass too.

only thing that does something is my tomini tang ( even eats very long strands of algae)
Any advice?

We'll get you all fixed up. Post all of your parameters for us. Using RoDi?

When doing water changes hold a toothbrush at the end of the siphon and scrub/suck up all you can.

I use RODI
Nitrate and phosphate?
Will post when I get home although I only have api for po4 and it reads 0
I don't think I've ever seen someone with an actual phosphate reading from API

Also note that the nitrate and phosphate reading could be inaccurate due to all ye algae soaking it up daily making it seem they are lower

Yeah lol

i think that too, and particles also get trapped in the algae like detritus, uneaten food, etc

New tank uglies from the sound of it. I battled GHA for 2 months and then never saw it again.

Clean all filters , reduce photo period and lower feeding will contribute to algae decline , or introducing macro algae to uptake nutrients faster than micro algae

How many fish?

How often do you do water changes?

Do you use a skimmer?

I've had nasty GHA problems in my 29. I usually have a little bit growing, I can tell when I need to do maintenance like adding a few more snails (trochus or turbos) or increase flow(clean pumps). I'll blast the rocks with a turkey baster before a water change.

I'm surprised an urchin hasn't touched it.

What really helped me was adding a chaeto fuge to my sump.

4 fish
No skimmer
Tried a fuge, growing chaeto like crazy, but not effective and when I tried to get rid of phosphate with chemicals, it started to die so I took it out and the chemical had no effect on algae

My other tank ( mangroves from the start) has had only some GHA in the ugly stage (1 mo) and now is pristine
