I dont need to find out if my nitrate levels are two low in my tanks. My gobstoopers tell me. When nitrate gets to 1ppm or lower mine start reaching for light (see pic) and are astonishingly reliable about it. Tells me to increase feeding ASAP.

Plus, they are a cool paly with no bad habits...other than growing too fast.

Any other 'weather corals' others have experience with?
 
I want to add that a reason zoanthids, and other palythoa species reach, is due to them wanting more light. Perhaps this you've discovered a secondary reason

I had a purple gorgonian that let me know when to do WC
