I need a few of them. One or two for the back wall and atleast one for the side wall. think they will be strong enough to hold some acros once they grow out? I dont want the magnet to slide down the wall.

Yes I think they will be strong enough. I wouldn't of made them if I thought they couldn't handle some added weight. But that being said the thicker the glass or acrylic of your tanks can play a role in how much you add to the shelf or station. But even then there are ways to prevent any overload problems. You can place a coral on the shelf that will grow onto the glass or acrylic and the shelf. This will help take some of the load off the shelf if you plan to grow out a monster sized colony. I am sure in time sponge growth and coralline will also bond to the shelf and glass making it hold stronger. There is the possibility that eventually you might have to trim the colony if it does get too big. But it would have to be pretty big for that to happen. We stacked about a five pound plus coral that was actually bigger than the shelf in Midwest Saltwaters 1/2" thick 300 gallon display. It held it no problem. That was a huge coral.

I should be good then, my 200 is not even 1/2" thk. Would these be good for chalice grow outs? are they flat enough? Also, how large are the frag stations that sit in the sand? I was looking for something like that for zoas and palys.

Here is a pic of an assortment of the first batch that is selling now. Sorry to hijack your thread Gary. The Stations actually have a flatter surface than the Shelves. The shelves can be set upside down to better display encrusting corals. I try to make every one a little different. If your looking for the most detail than go with the large size or medium size.
Frag Station 5's are about 6"x3", Frag Station 10's are about 8"x5" and FS 20's are about 10"x6" give or take a little on both ends. I am not at the shop and the numbers are off the top of my head. Everyone is different so the sizes will vary a bit.

I have them on my 65 and my 40 breeder, and they are rock solid. They'll handle an SPS colony of substantial size without any problem. The large shelves have two magnets and would take considerable downward pressure to break the magnetic hold.

Can anyone tell me how big the magnets are on the small shelves/frag stations? Curious to know if they are small enought to fit say inside of the overflow - so you could mount the shelves on the actual overflow itself. If they won't fit inside the two halves are they strong enough to hold with the open space between them? On my 65 for example, the two walls of the overflow are about 3/8 inch apart - so could I put the shelf on the inside of the tank and the magnet all the way inside the overflow?

Maybe, but it will be some cheap knock off made out of plastic and every one would look the same. Are you really gonna want that? The beauty of this hobby is that no two tanks are the same. And no two of these are the same.

This is a bad picture and the lights are out so I apologize. This is a sixty five gllon tank with the same type overflow you are describing. I moved one of my test pieces onto the overflow to show you that it does indeed hold.

Nothing good happens fast in a reef tank. Same goes for the ceramics.
I am making them as fast as I can but it is still a slow painful process. Paint dries faster than clay does....lol.
Right now Midwest Saltwater is the only place that has them and he is selling out fast. The Filter Guys will get some next week, but also a small shipment. My LFS guys that let me test in the display tank also get a few. DIY Reef will get what is left. And unfortunately all of them are only getting partial shipments.
May 1st our distributors will begin taking orders and they will be filled on a first come first serve basis after our original orders get filled completely. I am hoping by fall to be to a point where we can actually carry an inventory. No stores will be charged until the items actually ship so have your stores get on the list and have them order large, it doesn't cost anything to secure your place in line. If they order small they might run out of inventory. There is no special treatment. Even my wholesalers know they will probably get back ordered at some time. I hope it doesn't happen.
Thanks Gary, I've been waiting for Deb at DIY reefs to get her's in. She's a sponsor also, and took good care of me the last time I ordered - I've asked her to set a few aside for me when she gets em in.
Yep, yep - Deb said she hopes to get some in next week or so!
