My green rocks are turning white?

My tank was established at the end of December. I did a blackout about 3 weeks to get rid of some cyano issues and it cleared them up for the most part but now my green algae covered rocks are getting some white specs on them and wanted to know what everyone thought.

It looks like sand - but it is not a dusting and does not go away when I blow off the rock.

I was thinking coralline as well, mine usually starts out white.

I'd be all for that @fish farmer - how long does your's take to turn to purple (approx) It's only been like that for about 2-3 days...

Maybe a week when they are spots on the glass, usually very pale pink.

Yes and no. Yes because you are getting calcarious algae growth. No because of the constant scraping you'll have to do... lol

You dont have a flat scraper for your glass/acrylic? Toothbrush wont work.

Toothbrushes for rocks and corners I don’t use a scraper I go in my hand and use one of those Scott’s little green scrubby thin pads they’re like the size of a cell phone it does an awesome job and doesn’t scratch the glass the person who owned the tank I have Didn’t do a very good job of scraping and I keep it so clean that I could see all the scratch marks that he left behind it drives me nuts

Will a magnet glass cleaner work as well for the Coraline?

Yes. I however dont like "rubbing" coralline algae off glass. Some magnet scrapers have a scraping blade of plastic (for acrylic tanks) or stainless steel (for glass tanks). If you want to be overly cautious in avoiding scratches, you can use the plastic blades scraper on glass. You can equally is a plastic credit card to scrape glass... works really well.
