My Harry Houdini - Melanarus Wrasse

5 days ago I moved my Melanarus wrasse from my 29G bio cube into my 150G main tank. At first he seemed to love all the space and was swimming all over, not being bothered by the other fish. I'm now on day 4 of not seeing him. The other inhanbitants of the tank are a yellow tang, blue hippo tang, desjardini sailfin tang, female lyre tail angel and a frostbite clown. Is there a certain point where I should worry about my wrasse's disappearance or will he come out when he's more comfortable in the new tank.

He is probably in the sand. They can hide quite some time before coming out. I would worry a bit about the sailfin tang attitude and the lyre tail angelfish. I had the same angel never bothered a thing until one day it decided to become the boss in the tank. Can get very persistent in its chasing.

The Sailfin is the bully of the tang...but only towards the yellow tang Is there a number of days, in which I should worry about the Wrasse and maybe just move him back to the bio cube, which was his home for almost a year?

We moved everyone from a 75 into a 210 and the wrasse and gobie went under the sand or rock for a couple weeks. They both showed up one evening, as well as our sand sifting starfish, while she was feeding the corals.

Not uncommon for them to hide in the sand for days. I have two a male and a female in my 150 gallon tank the female will go unseen for over a week at a time then resurface like she was never gone. This week the female is out and I haven't seen the male for about 4 days now.

Good news! I went downstairs a little bit ago and the wrasse was out and about!!! He still seems a little skiddish everytime the sailfin gets near him, but at least I know he's alive and well!

I had a 3 day power outage and during that power outage my melanarus was nowhere to be seen, it even took a day or two after that before he magically reappeared. I think it is best to just let them hunker down and let them come out when comfortable. I was thinking for sure he was dead but after reading a few things and some time he just showed back up like nothing happened!

Fish are funny. I had my little shrimp goby hate that I moved his rock and hid for 4 days. Finally saw him come out to eat. Glad to hear your guy came out.
