My heater fell apart

There is a post about it right now. Both of my ehiems did that within a year. Now I'm second guessing running the finnex titanium heaters, ha.

Some of those titanium heaters in use today may have condensation inside as well, you just can't see it........ All have wiring that is sealed and that seal can fail just the same as glass do.

Been running finnex titanium heating rods since they were introduced. Never had one explode, didn't even know it was possible.

My current finnex is 300W and about 4 years old. Still has rock solid performance and keeps my temps within .5 degrees.

Wow, I've never heard of that happening. I have two finnex titanium heaters in my sump now. Was it a brand new heater?

Is this the heater?

I replaced my Jager TruTemp heaters because they kept getting condensation inside the glass tubes.
Lol I also am replacing my jager and was like “hmm let me check this out”.... now don’t know what to get lol

Since the OP never responded to the thread, all we can do is assume.

I still do wonder though, if it was a titanium rod, or one of the ones with a controller on it? I can't imagine the titanium rod blowing up(don't think anything in them would cause the titanium to actually explode), or if the end cap blew off? If it was a titanium rod, did the OP realize they need a controller and it was constantly on?

I could see a constant on causing the titanium case to split after a while.

I have an aqueon pro. It’s not titanium and works great for me. I would recommend it to everyone looking for a new heater now.

It was a brand new finnix titanium with the analog controller. In a brand new set up got a week. My plans are to run a icp test 100 percent water change then 2 weeks then another test. And a couple snails to help test for aluminum.

I also have it plugged into a apex. I used the heater controller to regulate and set up the apex to cut power if temp went over 79 degrees. The temp never went over 78

Just wanna drop my 2 cents real quick.

Get all the schrapnell out, at ANY cost, treated metals in a marine aquarium can result in very odd test measurements, corals and / or fish could die, and you'll, have a hard time figuring out why, as it won't necessarily happen in an hour, or two.. but this can take months, before you notice some sort of effect.

My heater fell apart or blew apart inside the sump. It was a finnex titanium. There was sand like substance and some kind of thin metal looking substance all in the sump. I vacuumed out the compartment that had all the stuff in it and fired it back up. Then I saw very small sparkles of what looked like metal all in my display. Any recommendations?
Do not add live stock but definitely get a Triton test and make sure there’s not toxins in the water
