Hi All,

So I never posted my tank here on r2r before, so this will be my first tank build thread for this site. I currently have 3 tanks: 1 29Biocube, 1 15G frag tank, and 1 40B DT due to my locations limit. So, I started this 40B back last year around July because of petco dollar sale. I have it on 2 Ikea $12 dollar coffee table, and with 10 Gallon sump. Tank is not drilled, since I'm using CPR Overflow Box. I had moved the rock from my 29G Biocube to the 40B, and it was not enough to cover. So after a few month, saw another petco sale, and had to went and buy another 40B for sump. Since the sump won't fit under the Ikea table, I went ahead and DIY a stand.

Here is the thread for my first attempt for this tank, from socalreef forum.
My Tank 40B with 40B Sump

After few week I have it setup on the stand, I accidentally overfeed x 10, since the tank does not have skimmer, carbon, gfo, and only about 20LBS of live rock for filtration. The very next day, I went to buy some dry reef rock, which feel like limestone instead and added to the tank. After 2-3 days with the overfeeding and without water change, I start to notice dinoflagellates. I have tried 3 Days black out, and also H2O2 to battle with the dino. I fail miserably, so I choose to start fresh again. While I do need to restart the tank, I do not have a place to put all my frag, and the biocub just starting to feel like major PITA to take care while need to redo things. So I went ahead and bought a frag tank to hold all my things. Around Dec, I took out all the Rocks, into a 15G bucket, and dumped 1 bottle of bleach and let them soak for few days. I rinse them in my bathtub few time before sun drying them for few days. I then decided to dump another bottle of bleach into the tank and let it soak for about half a week, before pumping the water out of it. So, after washing the sands, bleaching the rocks, letting the tank air dry for a day or 2. I'm starting to put them back together. I bought extra 100 LBS of dry rock from Marindepot (so I learn my lesson of more live rock = better.) I was able to put in around 30-40 Lbs in the top 40B, and around 20LBS in the bottom. Oh, some of the rock I had put in a trashcan to cycle a while =D. So I bought Red Sea Reef Mature kite to speed up the cycle, but I give up half way and dump pretty much half of everything except the No3 reducer into the tank.

So the only Equipment I have for the tank right now is Over flow box, a pump, and return pump. So here is my building list.

Display Tank: 40 Breeder
Circulation Pump : MP10 (I'm thinking of getting another one)
Lighting: None ( I'm currently still cycling, I return my Ecoxotic Par 24")
Over flow Box: CPR CS102
40 LBS of Carbsea Bahama OoLite
30-40 LBS of AquaMaxx Dry Reef Rock

Good luck on starting over.. It sucks when a new build goes sideways and issues come up..

just curious. i am also using the aquamaxx dry rock. I am having a huge issue with the alkalinity in my water. I have a 150 gal tank and am adding 180ml a day and the alkalinity stays just at 8.1. I think the rock is sucking the alkalinity out of the water. wanted to know if anybody else is having the same experience. the tank is cycled and going through the diatom stage right now . it's had water in it for about 2 1/2 months. the calcium is about 430, and the mag is 1360. if you haven't checked your levels, just for kicks please check and see where they are at. do you dose 2 part? I've tried soda ash, and bi-carbonate. same result.
