Looks like the price of the My Miami is on the way down fast when it did not even get the starting bid of $1200.00 on ebay being sold by Jason Fox himself.

YAY! Its only worth what the consumer will pay.....if we don't pay it then they cant sell it for that.

Funny how things work. Less then 1 month ago it was consider crazy that this piece will be less then $1000 in a year.

I think it's cause there is alot more out there than before and not impossible to get ahold of.

If it is a fast grower like the BGM then it will be less then the FT sooner then you think as the people that have them will be fragging to unload to recoupe some of their losses.

there are already other chalices out there that look just like the my miami, fetching a 10th of the price. People in this hobby always amaze me. the ocean is a big place. if there is one there is most def another, maybe even nicer than the first.

You know this may be true in most cases, but just like morphs we find in our tanks, some of these are one of a kind in the wild.

Honestly right now is a bad indicator of this chalice's value. Not that I think the price won't be coming down fast, but it's a tough market for everything right now. Have you seen the for sale posts on this forum? Right now everybody's cash has been spent on holiday items and everyone is in need of some extra dough. Stuff that was selling for $200 last month is having trouble going for half that, and that applies to almost everything right now. It's thin out there.

That said, who knows where the price will be settling post-holiday and into the next few months. There are only going to be a relative few people who can/will buy at the $1,500+ price-bracket. That eschelon will be exhausted fast, and if they want to continue to sell frags, the price will have to come down, regardless of whether anyone else starts selling frags.

I have said the same thing countless times, there is no way that there is only one of any coral in all the oceans! Just a matter of time before all the diversity reaches our tanks, and becomes even more abundant. There is more purple and red hornets in the sea and certainly WAY nicer chalices than that.......no offence intended but why would anybody pay more than $100 a frag for a creature that, if you want more than 1 you just need to break it in half, or cut off a DNA sample, becauce I assure you I have started acan and zoa colonies with by far less than a whole polyp.

tulips... it amazes me the bubbles that repeat over and over and over. just gotta find the next one, and short it.

Wild colonies, unless naturally fragged, should be genetically different as they are produced sexually.

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that coral reproduced in 2 or 3 ways in the wild, this is why you findthe exact same corals thousands of miles apart while morphing can occure within colonies?

I take it Jason Fox is in this hobby strictly for the money? He better go scurrying for the next big chalice....

I don't think that's fair to say. While he's not running away from the opportunity to make some money, I really don't think it's accurate to say that's all he's about. He's had some nice corals for quite some time prior to the My Miami craze and he isn't out running any scams. The My Miami is just his big spotlight moment after years of collecting.

The guys spending the $ right now, for the most part, have the play money to pick stuff up like this.
Its kind of hard to argue that it isn't worth the $ if you look at it from a collectors point.
It has been aquacultured for a year plus some, its color is argueably one of the best as far as the watermelons are concerned, its unique, and not a lot of people have it.

Its wayyyyyy out of my price range. But I'll end up with a piece one day I'm sure.

If you can afford this piece, you can afford to loose it.

I guarantee there are others like it or better in the ocean, but they aren't in our tanks now, haven't been aquacultured, ect. ect. ect.

I think it depends on the species, but not sure about that. Would like to know more about this. Is there a marine biologist in the house?

As I think about it more, makes sense that chalices might not only reproduce sexually and through fragging, but also asexually by sending out clones of themselves into the water column to show up wherever. Just don't see exact replicas of many chalices showing up like with zoas and other types of corals. If there is another Mi Miami out there, have not seen it. I hope there is more out there in the ocean, and am sure there has to be something at least very close.

+1 - The My Miami is only 1 of a couple thousand corals he has.

Most people have seen some nice stores, collections, as have I. Everytime I go to his house it just blows me away. He has 10x's nicer stuff than I have seen ANYWHERE, and it is ALL aquacultured, QTed, and proven.

Its kind of hard to say he is only in it for the money when:

A: He doesn't have a retail outlet
B: He rarely sells online
C: If you knew him

He enjoys collecting and reefing to the FULLEST extent. The sales aspect came wayyyy later.

I dont see the appeal in that coral... it is a nice piece yes, but $1500-1000 per eye?
