My New Dwarf Seahorse Tank

So my wife had been asking for seahorses and I knew I couldn't keep them in my reef tank. So we decided to set up a dwarf tank. It had been cycling since the beginning of August and we just got the seahorses last week. We have 11, had 12

Here's a few pictures:

I need to get some pictures of them actually in the tank. Will work on that next but wanted to get started by posting some pics.

Also I was sent a "freebie" pipefish. I have it in the tank with the dwarfs, is that ok or is it better in a reef tank?

They are so cute!!! Do you know what type of pipefish? It should be fine with the dwarf seahorses from what I know. I have never raised dwarf seahorses. Good luck with the new additions!!!!

Haven't had a chance to get some new pictures uploaded yet but hopefully will today or tomorrow. I've added some gorgonians/sea whips to the tank. I don't especially like the fake plants in there, would love to eventually have it be all natural, we'll see.

JC: The tank is a Fluval Edge 6.5gal. I like the tank too. It's not really the easiest tank to work in because of the relatively small opening but I think it looks cool and so far its working out.

SeahorseKeeper, I'm not sure exactly the type. I'll try to get a picture of it too. I know it comes from the same area as the dwarfs and I've read that they should be fine I guess. But I've also seen other things that hinted that they shouldn't be kept with dwarfs, but not sure why yet. It's cool though, it changed colors when I put the gorgonians in. It had been sort of black with blueish stripes but now its like a greenish color.

Will try to get some new pics up.

There 2 main reasons that I can think of why people won't want to keep pipefish with dwarfs or other seahorses. 1) More competition for food. They both eat similar foods and this can be difficult to keep them fed. 2) The possibility of the transmission of disease from the pipefish to the seahorse or the other way around. There is the belief that one can be the carrier of disease that the other one may get infected with.

Ok finally got some updated pics. Made some changes to the tank. Took out most of the fake plants and now have 1 plastic plant, then 2 flame algaes, some light and dark purple gorgonians/sea whips and some green gorgonian. They're small right now but should hopefully grow in nicely, the polyps are usually all out! Not the best pics ever but some are pretty decent. Thanks for looking!

Been a little up and down with the tank so far, lost a few seahorses

But today for the first time I noticed baby seahorses!! They're so tiny! I've seen 3 so far...

Yeah, part of the learning curve unfortunately I guess. Started with 12, one got stuck in the filter the first night when the sponge slipped. Been much better lately though. Found one more baby, so back up to 12 seahorses total, hopefully all the babies make it.
