I purchased a super awesome acro off of divers den a couple days ago and got it today. I am already a sucker for carduus and walindii, but I have never seen one like this. I snapped some pics of it and decided to show it off. I don't usually get super excited and showoff my new purchases but this thing is so awesome I thought I should show it off. Its a purple acropora carduus with green tips, and I cant pick it up in the pics but the long branches are blue at the ends before the green (the parts that look pinkish purple inthe flash shot are blue under halides). Thanks everybody, Yeah it's a fairly decent sized piece, the PVC it's sitting on is a 2 in ID. It was listed as 4 inches but is a little bigger than I expected, not quite sure how I'm going to get it into the rockwork yet.
It is a wild aussie acro, I wish I was better at taking pics so I could get all three colors. If you look at the acclimating pics, that parts that look pink are a sky blue under my halides.
I think the color might hold up because when it arrived a small two polyp piece had broken off that was the purplish color. It is already four polyp's, the base is purple and the tip is turning neon green and sky blue...so my guess is if the tiny piece is developing these colors then the whole thing will maintain the colors. I have the colony down low and that spec up real high though, I know carduus typically like lower light for color but maybe this one likes both. The colony purple is getting a little lighter and the blue is getting brighter.
Well its been about a month so I figure it is showing its captivity colors by now. I've been keeping it about four inches off the sand so it is in relatively low light. I did cut a couple frags to put in a couple different lighting spots, the one near the top had a lot more blue with green tips and purple around the base...it got knocked off the rocks and I cant find it anymore to get a pic but it was cool looking. The pics cant pick this up but the polyps near the tips are pinkish now, which is pretty cool. This thing has a lot of different shades of purple, green tips, blue just behind the green, and has some pink in it too. Thanks, got him as a pure bred Aussie. He's about 55lbs (probably five pounds is his tongue) and just over a year old...not sure how big they are supposed to be but I don't think he's a mini. Super smart dog but super hard headed, Easy to train on the things he wants to do like frisbee (all I had to do was throw it) and play but obedience and not barking are very difficult (the only way I can get through is with a training collar that beeps and shocks after the beep if he still isn't listening). He listens when it's in but when I take it off to charge he's back at it. And I have to throw the frisbee every day to wear him out, it's like having another child. Another thing about Aussies, they have got to be the most velcro dogs ever...can't even use the restroom in piece without him trying to get in there and lay by me. He's a great dog though, my son really is starting to like him.
