My new foxface has been pretty shy has anybody gotten one and was shy?

They typically are, unless it's feeding time. Research them... Beautiful fish, but your right, not out all the time. Never had one, but a buddy of mine did and it was hide-n-seek...

Being only a week, it is still acclimating to the tank. Once acclimated, they are best described as being skittish, rather than shy. I have a 6" Magnificent in my 125. It is out in the open all day long, but will run and hide behind rocks when startled. Mine eats out of my hands, as is common with them once acclimated.

Mine is too when he sees anyone but me by the tank. After 2 months hes still kinda skiddish. He will eat in front of me but always keeps an eyeball on me.My Yellow Tang kept trying to take him out when I first put him in ,but he survived and theyre best buds now.

I had one for 10 plus years...if any of usual people were around the tank, he would be out swimming carefree....if there was a stranger in the house....he
would hide and go all camo. Awesome fish. Ours was "David Spade" and he actually protected my young sailfin when my powderblue was giving it heck
when the sailfin was introduced as a baby. I swear.....the sailfin was getting beat up and was hiding in the corner. The foxface got between the him and the powder
blue and gave him time to regroup. David Spade will never be forgotten in our house! ;)

I have had both ends of the spectrum. My first one was skittish always nervous. When I upgraded from a 90 to a 180, I put him in a bucket by himself and he died.. in like 15 minutes. I guess stress. I now have a Magnificant, and he is very personable. He begs for nori.....a great personality.

You know what they say...,,, the more hiding places you give a fish, the less time they will spend hiding. If they only have one place they can hide, they will almost never leave it because they are in a constant state of stress. If they have lots of hiding spots they feel much more at ease.
Mine would chill at the top corner of the tank at night, his colors all blotched out and spines erect.

Here is a pic of same fish with lots of hiding places and still hid all the time. Only recently switched to no rock work.

My One-spot is the same way. Begs for nori and always comes to the front of the tank when I'm in the room. He'll eat small bits of banana from my fingers as a treat every now and then, too. :)

Or he could have brought in a disease to your tank. Was this fish quarantined?

edit: did the other foxface act aggressive toward him? That could also be a potential cause.
