My New Grafted Chalice

I just received this coral yesterday and I am wondering if you all think it is grafted or just two-toned? The bright red spreads across the coral in the swirly/melty fashion which is seen in SPS grafts which leads me to believe this chalice is indeed grafted. However, I would like others opinions as well.

Two toned...I have one I got from neptunes called two face that does a very similar thing I will snap a pic for you. Sick piece!!! :bigsmile:

Ok cool, I will look forward to the pictures!

I guess a way to determine for sure would be to cut a frag with no 2 colors and then if it does not develop the bright red it is grafted, since the graft is not a DNA thing unlike the 2-toned pattern, right?

even if you cut another frag it will still be hard to tell cause the red in that type of chalice sometimes take months to show up, I have two other local reefers that have the neptunes two face and they all have different color patterns in them.

Thanks and there are a few chalices out there that are grafted. Few being the key word though, hahaha!

Also, I forgot to mention, but the primary reason why I even brought of the potential graft is because I bought it as a Naturally Grafted Chalice, and since their was not a defined line between the colors, like seen on the standard multi-colored chalices, I figured I would buy it and hope for the best, hahaha.

Yea, but even if the color showed up 10 months later, I would still know it was NOT grafted. I want to see a picture of this Neptune's Two-Faced, hurry up! Hahahaha

A little different shades of color but still very similar...in other frags I have seen it also devolops a nice shade of purple streaks.

I see, it does look similar. The only real difference I see is the sp. Nice looking chalice colony!

Thanks I have had it for a few years now...here is what it looked like about a year ago...you can see it in the back....I wish mine would hurry up and get the purple in it, myzislow's frag loos insane with the purple in it, maybe he will post a pic...

Regardless if it is grafted or not you still got a cherry on you hands! Good luck on it I am interested to see how it colors up.

Yea, thanks! I don't plan on disturbing it any time soon, so I hope I will starting seeing some nicer coloration!

I tend to lean toward just natural coloration not grafting. A lot of chalices have swirls of different colors. Gold chalices for example eventually develop swirls of green, blue, and red. (atleast for me) even when the color was not present originally.

That is true, but I have never thought about it that way. Very interesting for sure.
