So when I got my 125 there was not a lot of planning involved - quite literally. At the time my wife and I were in to fresh water tanks and we wanted to recreate a Florida spring in a tank. A friend of ours stumbled across the 125 in his company's classifieds with a stand, light, and sump for $250, so we were sold. Lo and behold he was nice enough to load it up and bring it down to us and says "Let's get this thing going", which had us confused - our plan was to dry dock it for a couple months before getting it going. Turns out, it had fish with it that needed a home - a maroon clown, a lunar wrasse, and a 2' snowflake eel - and we needed to get it set up pronto. So plenty of mistakes were made....fast forward almost three years....

I happen to be fortunate enough to have acquired a 240 gallon tank for the cost of removing it from a home. This time I want to plan it out so I can get to the end result I want without having to stop and redo things like I have done with the 125 (which is now going away).

The tank measures 85"x 22 1/2" x 29" with dual corner overflows.

I have a friend through Scouting that is going to be building be a custom stand for the cost of materials - this brings me to my first question for you all. How should I lay out the stand? I know I don't want a deck on the top to help access the bulk heads - a flaw of my current DIY stand.

I am planning on using an IceCap 36 sump - I have an IceCap 30 on my 125 now and really like it, the 240 should be at the top end of the 36's capability according to manufacturer recommendation.

I will be moving the following equipment from the 125 to the 240:
Apex (2016)
DOS & DDR
AFS
ATK
2 - Maxspect Gyre x-150 (using the new XF-250 controller)

I plan on getting the following equipment:
4 Hydra 26HDs
Reef Octopus SRO3000SSS
2 ~1100 gph return pumps
2 - WAV powerheads (if more flow is needed).

I hope to start working on building this tank this month and will update with photos as I can.

Congrats on the score! I could never imagine a 240. Best of luck.

Very nice! Looks like a well laid out plan! Good luck! Its going to look pretty.

OK, so I need some assistance, I am still in the planning stage and do not have the tank on a stand yet, but I am already debating what overflow/stand pipe method to use.

My current 125 has dual corner overflows with Dursos - which I don't mind but I want my new 240 to be silent, and Dursos aren't quite there.

I understand how the Bean Animal and the Herbie, but I have only seen these contained within a single overflow - normally a weir or coast-to-coast with everything out the bang right next to each other. I also don't want to run a return over the edge, but would rather still use the returns located within the overflow wall for appearance.

So would a herbie work with one pipe in one corner and the other in the opposite? Which would leave me two 3/4" returns from the sump.

Or, would a Bean Animal work with the three split between the two corners? Primary (with gate valve) and the secondary in one corner with the emergency in the other? That would leave me one 3/4" return from the sump.

Thoughts/opinions?

Photos and/or videos are always appreciated.
