My new tank

Tanks looking great, thinking about getting an anemone for my clowns. Is there a certain kind they like, or does anyone have a suggestion. IMG_20170616_204342827.jpg

Still kinda young for an anemone. Also might want to look into a power head to move some water around.

I'm always open to suggestions on the tank as well as next step advice. So dont be shy
I also have a Biocube 32; looks like your return is turned vertically and shoots down into tank - a lot of reefers turn theirs horizontally and pointed up so that it agitates top of water and helps create turbulence and gas exchange. Depending on the type of corals you plan to keep this might be something to consider.

And don't stop believing

Lol Mikedawg, I'm looking into power heads right now. And as far as agitating the top never gave that a thought, I was just thinking of circulation for the water. Thanks for the idea.

And, I use the Koralia 425 placed under my return and turned to the right such that it pushes water toward inlets; seems to produce a pretty good moderate flow at middle and bottom level and corals (scolys, symphillia, scrolls) seems to do well with the dispersal pattern. Another option.

I did replace stock pump with Sicce 1.5 to get an additional 100 gph flow, btw.

I will look into these, thanks

Ok, I have a new sump pump and power head on the way. I will be around 1100 gph with both, is that too much flow or not enough?

1 more question for ya, how often and how much should they be eating. I'm feeding them half of a frozen block of mysis shrimp every other day. They seem satisfied, is that too much or not enough?

So, that is about a 36x water turnover rate which I would say is on the high side, but if you're thinking SPS coral I believe that is good; for corals that like moderate to low flow it might be too much. Hopefully, your pumps can be dialed up and down so you can get just the right amount of flow for the corals you choose. One thing nice about the height of the biocube is that you can create different regions of flow for different types of corals.

Your feeding regimen sounds good for two clowns and your CUC; just watch closely to make sure that CUC gets enough food/algae. I would recommend that you try to vary your clowns' diet with some additional types of frozen and dry pellet/flake foods - they are not fussy eaters in my experience.

Looking good and I really like your rose urchin

I will look into some different types of food so they get a little verity of nutrition.

And thanks, I love my urchin. My wife named him "Klyde the Klepto" because he steals shells and rocks all the time.

So I did a little more research and changed my mind. I have a sicce 1.5 return pump and a Hydor Koralia Nano 240 gph circulation pump on the way. If I need more later I will purchase another circulation pump. Oh almost forgot I have a refractometer on the way to so I can quite borrowing my LFS. What did I get myself into, hahaha

Which will give me roughly 600 gph turnover

Looks like you're off to a great start! I've also got the Sicce 1.5 in my 32 and am very happy with it. Should pair well with the Hydor. This hobby is a never ending series of upgrades, experiments and education. Just soak it all up and do what works for you.

New sicce and hydor are installed and operational. Seems to be circulating water much better now. And I love the new refractometer I got. Makes testing salinity a breeze.

I have noticed the last week or so, a reddish algea growing on the substrate. I don't have it anywhere else though. I'm getting more film algea growing lately too. Knowing I need to expand my cuc, any suggestions. I'm thinking snails. Cuc consists of (at the moment) 5 blue leg hermits, 2 atrea, 1 Mexican turbo, pincushion urchin (not sure if he counts or not)I and at least 3 bristle worms. IMG_20170701_192400147_HDR.jpg

2 "astrea snails", I have trouble typing sometimes.

So it's been a little while since my last update. Sorry to say but I lost one of my clowns. Pretty sure the other one beat it up to the point where he gave up. I was really hoping they would work it out. Purchased another one recently. They seem to get along much better than the other one. I know it won't be my only loss ever but it still sucks.

Got my red algea taken care of. Cynobacteria I guess I should say. All is well and no signs for almost 2 weeks now.

Other than that I'm getting excited for the purchase of my first anem. Any advice on them would be greatly appreciated. Never had one before. Looking at a gbta. Just like the look of them against the orange clowns. Let me know, if you have another suggestion for an anem. Thanks

Almost forgot a picture of the new guy IMG_20170709_205542769.jpg

Well my tank is moving along nicely. Got a few new inhabitants. I now have a blood shrimp, a peppermint shrimp, and my first bubble tip anemone :). IMG_20170726_194221446_HDR.jpg
