Yep! Just received mine from BRS earlier this week in a group buy. Funeral for the hydrometer to be held this weekend. At $35 bucks including calibration fluid it is one of the best purchases I've made only behind my RO/DI and skimmer.

Now when I got mine e from BRS it was sealed and said do not calibrate to zero. After reading some more found out it can cause it to miss read so I just use the solution

Yeah, don't calibrate to zero if you're using the fluid because the fluid has salinity. You'd only calibrate to zero if you were using distilled water since it has 0 salinity.

I've never been a fan of using RO/DI or distilled water to calibrate. I've always calibrated to 35ppt. Reason being is because 35ppt is closer to what we need as opposed to 0(which Distilled water should read). Let's say you did calibrate to 0 but what if the way the line moves up to the 34ppt or 35ppt isn't linear?

I would never use either water. Thats just what the instructions say. I'll stick with the calibration fluid.

Does anyone know what is so special about the Milwaukee brand refractometer?

Now it's holding steady at 1.026. I love my refractometer!
