i just got it and it's already eating. I will be setting up my 75 gallon in the next few months when he gets too big for the 29 gallon. (it will be a reef too, but just gonna be set up as fowlr first) but here are pics of it. it was the most beautiful one I had ever seen in captivity.

Last time I was talking "fish" to a volitan he told me he like at least a 700 gallon tank! HEHE! thats a joke!
Nice looking fish man

Where in the Caribbean? I haven't seen any yet...

I loved my volitan. It will grow very fast on you. Don't be fooled by how much it begs for food. It doesn't need to eat as much as he might say (they can be chatty when it comes to food). You can train him if you respect him;).

I saw one while snorkeling on a cruise ship's island. they are actually considered nuisances because they aren't native predators.

not really a good thing that I saw one in the Caribbean. they are still my favorite fish.

I do want to train him. he is already half way. whenever I put my hand on top of the tank he comes up and asks for food. lol. i fed him frozen krill twice today and he asked for more each time. lol. how many frozen krill should I feed him a day. I fed him 2 and a half today. I just don't want to overfeed him and end up with him outgrowing the 29 before I set up the 75

I cant speak for lions cause I havent kept any, but I have kept several puffers and I knowit was important to not feed alot of krill to puffers, isnt good for them, you need to vary there diet with silversides, goldfish or guppies, and krill. I wouldnt think more than one krill twice a day for one that small, but like I said I dont know much about lions

Like Bryan said, I'd vary the foods for him so he doesn't get into a rut with insufficient nutrient. I'm not sure there is a good answer on how much to feed... I tried to feed him about half as much as he wanted food;). On a krill example, I would give him 3-4 pieces of frozen or freeze dried krill at one sitting, then small amounts of something else hours later. Sometimes, he only got a single serving of anything per day. I'd try to stick with marine fish, as they have more of what he needs than freshwater fish. Silversides, squid, etc. Anything kinda big and meaty. Be careful with items that may have potentially been frozen and thawed.

I've heard lions and clowns are in the Caribbean (the lion article I saw was in NC), but I've not seen any. I think it's a shame that so many non indigenous species are making it into Caribbean waters. Species being where they aren't supposed to be creates problems worldwide... If they are naturally redistributing themselves, its one thing, but if this is due almost solely to the hobby, we need to start policing each other.

thanks that was a lot of help. I have some feeders that I was raising for my cichlids. they are convicts pumped full of high nutrient food. (cichlid bio-gold). I have a few hundred of them around here. I guess I could feed him one of them. the are only 3/4's of an inch right now.
