I have a yellow tang that is two years old in the tank and recently got a powder brown tang. I had the PBT in an acclimation box for 3 days to get the yellow used to him. The first day he would go after the PBT but the next two days he ignored him. So I thought it was cool. I released the PBT in the tank during feeding time and within 5 minutes the yellow was relentless. So I put three mirrors around the tank to distract him and now he will not stop attacking his reflection. He's completely ignoring the new PBT but the "new yellow" is a mortal enemy it seems. Will this subside after a while? The PBT doesn't seem to like his reflection too much either.

Problem with Tangs is they're born to swim 10miles a day. As they mature into 3, 4, 5 yrs old they become more and more intolerable to their pinned-up surroundings and eventually turn on each other. The dominant one will live and all others die.

Unless you have a great amount of space in a large tank, its an eventuality.

Enjoy your tangs for the time you have them knowing the life cycle.

Strong parallels here:
