my newbie FOWLR is almost up

What [emoji121]️said. They will be fine together. And the damsel method is fine. I just wouldn't add anything more until your cycle is done.

The damsels will not pick on the snowflake. They will be fine togeather.

good because these brightly colored jerk-fish have kinda made a place in my heart.

I'll kill them if I have to for the good of the eel but I don't want to. They're funny. Their movements are all darty, and they think they own the tank like someone said previously. The big one loves eyeballing me. I feel like he's sizing me up

ooh a sump... Im trying to make my first saltwater 20 gallon aquarium, and Im not sure what equipment I need, though I've been told not to get a protein skimmer and sump is optional, do u know a good filter to get?

What are you trying to put in the tank? That determines a lot.

For a 20 gallon nano, you could do a canister filter probably.

Live rock is the best filter overall, but it cant do it all alone.

You want at least one type of mechanical filtration (something that separates large particles from the water) like a sock filter, power filter, or cannister filter.

Multiple type of chemical filtration - this can be either chemicals that change nitrogen/ammonia levels, or the protein skimmer is considered chemical filtration because it's removing dissolved substances in the water.
and finally, your biological filtration. Live rocks, nitrifying bacteria.

Keep in mind a smaller tank is a lot harder to manage because water levels get fouled quicker in less water volume, so filtration is going to be super important for you.

The general rule is, buy the biggest tank you can afford. Costs don't start to skyrocket till after 50-55 gallon tanks.

Both Petco and Petsmart are having 1dollar / gallon aquarium sales for another week or so.

Oh man, I accidentally started a different thread, and neglected you all. Almost 2 months later, there's a lot more going on in here.

2 damsels. One died maybe 2 weeks in, it got picked on by the other two. Had nothing to do with water quality that I could tell.

1 Melanarus, in there about 6 weeks now
1 Diamond Goby, 3 weeks

a bunch of snails and hermits

My dad did this hobby back in the 70s-80s, and bleached coral skelatons were all the rage for decoration back then. I have integrated / recycled these who knows how old coral skelatons (at least 40-50+ years) into my FOWLR now.

Might go crazy and add xenia this weekend though, so it won't be a FOWLR anymore, will it?
