I took video why don’t it load I’m doing it from my iPhone

First off, your tank looks awful crowded. Secondly your trigger looks normal and that "scratching" as you called it, is more like the trigger is trying to burrow. Nigers are notorious for burrowing, moving sand, rocks and coral. They also like hiding spots in rocks & when they sleep they use their upper & lower fins to lock them inbetween rockwork.

My Niger used to do that too.i was told that's how they mark there territory. He could be scratching himself too. Mine never had any thing wrong with him but did it from time to time

Mine played dead for about a week and layed in various places around the tank then he decided it was ok and started acting normal.

Video niger trigger

i have 7 fish it’s a 120 gal

Sorry, your tank looked small in video I downloaded. Back to your trigger give it some hiding spots in the rockwork & yes keep a lid on it.

I have a tube in my tank where a snowflake eel lives. The trigger swam into it and laid on it's side with it's tail hanging out. For several days my wife tells me I have a dead fish. I tell her no, hes fine. Did the eel eat that fish? No, he's fine. Well he doesn't look good to me. He's fine.

@Mical nailed it, it's a niger trait. What size is the tank, nigers grow fast and are true to size, they will get to12" in just a few years. If the tank is too small as they grow his "burrowing" type activity will get more aggressive and even destructive.

Don't take anything for granted. Do you have cleaner wrasse or Shrimp? It is a sure sign that something is irritating your fish.....It does not have to be devastating, but something is not ok.

I am dealing with a massive ick outbreak. I have one blue streak wrasse, but recently added three red skunk shrimp. They set up their cleaning stations and my fish lined up like crazy. It has been about a week now and the cleaning has slowed down a bit. I went with the wrasse because my triggers and eel will eventually eat the shrimp. But it is clear to me that will need to help the wrasse with shrimp.

I have sworn several times my Picasso was dead! Found him in strange positions in my rocks.....he is one of my original fish and is about 3 years old now...survived every nuking I have done. Part of what the "Tigger" fin does for them is allow them to wedge themselves in rocks and hang out safely.

My Picasso and clown will both do high speed laps after eating.

My niger (Nosferatu) is brilliant, with deep purple and green. Teeth are starting to turn red. I love trigger!!!!!!!
