My PAR map

Hello reefers today I rented a PAR meter from BRS. My plan for my reefer 170 is a SPS dominated tank. The attached picture shows PAR numbers with light at 90% using a diffuser (XR30 Blue). Highest point to waterline is 10 inches. What are your thoughts on the numbers? Good range or should I bump them down a little?

That looks good to me. Try measuring with all of the pumps and powerbeads on, your numbers should go down a little with the surface disturbance.

Yes, all of these numbers were with power heads and everything on.

Looks pretty dang good to me as well.

Suggest watching the BRSTV series on the WWC tanks, it was pretty surprising to see the PAR levels they kept their colonies at.

Personally, I like the 75% better to start, I find all of my frags did better at 280-350 PAR. I have been upping my PAR over the last few months and notice anything over 350 my SPS starts to lighten up. I actually just tested my PAR today and most are 300 PAR and growing/coloring up great. Also nutrients come into play

Yea I actually like that better as well . That way I’m not going to fry my frags. I also ordered a mess screen so it may bump them down very slightly. So I think 75 is the sweet spot for my tank

Depends what you want to keep. I think those numbers are perfect for SPS.

If you want to keep fleshy LPS like Acanthophyllia, Trachyphillia, Weslophyllia, Scolymia, Elegance, Acan Lords, Blastomussa, etc. you want to find a spot with closer to 100-150. No need to adjust your lights, just put a rock somewhere to make an overhang.
