I woke up this morning thinking my hawkfish finally got comfortable enough to come out of his cave but when I got closer I was saddened to see he was dead. My three other fish which are two clowns and a firefish are fine and swimming normally. Does anyone know what could have happened. The only thing that happened yesterday was a water change and some sand got stirred but I don’t know if that affected anything. My corals are fine as well.

My parameters

ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
P.H. 8
Phosphate 0.3
Nitrate 3
Alk 12.5
Calcium 440
Magnesium unknown don’t have a test kit yet.

Hard to tell post mortem. Maybe acclimation issues? Sickness you were unaware of?

I don’t think it was a acclimation issue because he was in here for a week and eating fine. Maybe a sickness but he never showed anything on his body or his behavior.

Sometimes very small fish just don’t seem to make it. I think they might need multiple feedings a day, as they’re technically an Anthias.

Also, any aggression from other fish?

Oh ok I heard about them being Anthias and I never thought about the multiple feedings. I did put in a lot of food per day though but I guess that could of been it. And I didn’t see any aggression from my clowns so I doubt it was that. Thanks for the help.

Yeah you also have to make sure they’re being fed enough, that enough food is directly reaching them. Maybe tongs or tweezers might be needed.
Makes sense. That sounds look I good idea. Thanks for the info.
