My Quarantine Woes....

Dewayne,

I've been following along trying to learn from your misfortune.

I have nothing helpful to offer other than encouragement. It's easy to get down in this hobby but don't do that. Learn from your experiences and move foreward. Someone with your determination and dedication will surely be successfull at this hobby.

BeSt of luck

Thank you for your support. @GoldeneyeRet @Big G and of course @Humblefish. Sadly this morning I have lost the battle altogether. No fish left and no desire to try again any time soon. I guess the next question would be can the Velvet (or anything else for that matter) survive if I dump some bleach and do a good thorough rinse before shutting everything down for a while or am I better off letting it run for a few months fallow to make sure everything dies off before shutting down?. I don't know if any of the ICH or Marine Velvet life stages can remain dormant for any period of time without water.

Maybe I'll finally get around to starting the thread of the DT build that I haven't had time to do.

@Dewayne Whitesell First off, I am very sorry for your losses. Know that what you have just experienced has happened to many in this hobby at some point - myself included. QT wipeouts happen sometimes. ;Meh What I recommend now is that you break the QT completely down, and sterilize everything using bleach. Hit the "reset button" on everything, if you will.

That was my thought exactly.

Just read this entire thread because I have been there. I have lost almost 1/2 of my fish in QT over the past year. However, when I had an ich outbreak, I was able to save my foxface and my sailfin - cure them, and keep them in QT for almost 3 months while I ran fallow! Much to the help of @Humblefish and @melypr1985. I am a very impatient person and when it was time, I wanted all the fish at once. I successfully QT'd a flamehawk. Then tried McCosker, scooter, yellow wrasse and mandarin all at once - - - the scooter is the only one who made it. I have learned many of these lessons. And then rescued a dogface puffer from Petco who had ich and velvet and he is now at our local zoo and will be going into the main tank to replace their puffer that just died!

All of this to say - don't give up! Reset and you will do great the next time!!

Thank you. I appreciate the post. I am currently resetting, breaking everything down and cleaning everything up. I am also taking the opportunity to relocate my QT further away from my Main Tank Sump to avoid any possibility of airborne contamination in to future. After the holidays when I know I have the time to dedicate to trying again I'll give it another shot.

You might also want to see about getting some chloroquine phosphate, using that instead of copper. You have to get a script from a vet, but if you can get, you will eliminate all of the problems that come with copper.

I assume you would have to pay for a vet visit right? What would be a reasonable charge? If you happen know. I used this site to find a local ornamental marine fish veterinarian and was thinking about calling and asking about getting a scrip for CP.

Sorry man. Reset of QT equipment is a good idea. Don't give up.

Can you post to let me know how it goes. I’m thinking possibly of doing the same but it all seems a bit pricey

I don't know what it might cost. I got my script for free from my uncle, a vet. I would guess the visit wouldn't be more than $100, hopefully less.

My vet charges me 46.00 for a cp script. We have a long standing working relationship so I'm not sure if that's a good deal or normal price.

I checked out the link. The closest one to me on there is about 2 hours away. In addition that one was out of business along with everything else within 4 hours. Closest to me is a 5 hour drive..... May stick to copper.

Just call a local vet and see if they will prescribe if you come in for an office visit. Preferably, contact the vet you already use if you have other animals. Another option is to ask a friend who is an MD or maybe even a dentist to write a script for you.

If anyone is still following along, after breaking down the tank and cleaning everything with bleach I relocated the the system to the other side of my garage. I started everything back up and it's been running for the better part of a full month. I ordered a small Lemonpeel Angel and another Melanurus Wrasse from LiveAquaria with Saturday delivery last week. Unfortunately UPS failed to note the "overnight" postage that was paid and held onto it until Monday morning. What I received was a super stressed Wrasse and a near dead Lemonpeel. Lucily for me LiveAquaria seems to take great effort in selecting only the healthiest fish to ship (otherwise it would have been worse than nearly dead) after acclimation and a day in the hospital tank they started looking much better. The Wrasse started eating, however the Lemonpeel hide for a couple additional days. I went ahead and started copper treatment ramping up to therapeutic levels over 5 days. Todays test showed right around .25 and my target is .2 according to the label and @Humblefish. I'll keep the thread updated over the next 7 weeks until the fish make it to the DT.
