So I have owned this bta since the first aquashella in niles Illinois. It just recently went into a weird looking shape. One morning I go look and it split. But it still seemed unhappy. The next day in the morning I saw it split again. I was thinking my water might have caused it. Tested my water

Salinity 1.026
Temp 79
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate almost 40 < my suspect

But my black widow is doing fine. No splitting. I did manage to get my nitrate to lower to 20 now. I put in a whole new sump that is bigger and has a refuguim. And also got a real ato system to balance out any evaporation. I just hope that it is fine. It is opened and hasn't moved. It was bigger than a grapefruit before it split.

Congrats ! Many things could cause them to split
I wish I could keep nems alive

Thank you guys. I just wanted to see if this was normal. I now have 4 btas. Originally started with 2. So now to wait another 6 months and 1 of them is going into my jbj 25 gallon flat panel tank. It has my black storm pair. They need a nem. And the tank is fresh and want to give it 6 months to a year. It had been up 2 months. The tank the nems are in is my 93 gallon that has been up for 2 years.

I started with one and now have 5. I want to go back to 1, so the next job is getting them loose and getting store credit...
