My Rant!!!!!

Ok I will start by saying I hope I don't get booted over this but this I really bothering me... I am so sick and tired of LFS and their BS.... with that said I am fully aware there are great sores out there and people that run them im not talking about them (I wish I had one in my area)... im new to the Saltwater work and information is King but when you have gathered all of your information one could ya kinda have to start the project. well that's were the problem comes in, does one seek out a LFS/Hardware Store or do they turn to the WWW? I understand the LFS will not have everything at their disposal and I also understand that they may also be brand specific. Where my problem comes in and the rant starts (yes it hasn't started yet) is, the 3 issues I have and that cause me to look to the inter web is Service, Cleanliness, and Knowledgeable staff.

(1) Service: noun: service the action of helping or doing work for someone.

I work in a Service Driven Industry (sales Consultant) and after he Sale or even before the Sale is the key to making a sale or repeat sale. I irritates me when I here shop owns complaining about how its so hard to compete with online retailers. I get it they don't have any over head Ie( building, Power, water, 3-4 employees). But I for one(and speaking for my self IDK how you feel) Love to shop Local im ok with spending a little more for something that's I my hometown or even a neighboring city. but when your a shop keep that watches a customer drive up and check what time you open and you know that the shop isn't open for another 20 min just let that customer leave without even the slightest hey what could I help you with or we don't open for a few min could you hang around. no nothing just sat there and watch that money drive off. another example I have experience in the few short months of dealing with this hobby is the "hey where is this item " shop Owner " it just over there" and Point arbitrarily off in some point in the shop. (I love that one). I for one have been know to open early and stay Way later than closing skip lunch get up off my butt walk a customer to a shelf meet them at their house all for the sake of great service.



(2)Cleanliness: Noun: Cleanliness personally neat; careful to keep or make clean.

this I a biggy for me when it come to any pet care to supermarket. If it looks like the remnants of a Swap meet I want nothing to do with it. If I go into a Aquarium shop and the place looks like a disaster epicenter or they look like they are on the border of going out of business and all the "good" stuff has been picked clean I want nothing to do with it. Yet again I get... you need to order in bulk to get a good price, but please don't leave it in the walk ways like a Bad Walmart Black Friday sale put it away!!! and if your tanks look like Death Warmed over Please Clean them. if you have 5 Years salt Creep that is creating its own works of art it need to be cleaned. I know some products sit on shelves for a long time but have some pride in what you do and dust them off ever other decade at least. if your place is looking like a cross between a house of hoarders and a bad 60' science fiction movie ya might want to clean it up. I love taking my kids to the LFS to see the fish or Local Reptile house but as of lately I have not taken them to any bc of all the following.



(3)Knowledgeable staff knowl·edge·a·ble adjective: knowledgeable : intelligent and well informed.


So I spoke to a very Pleasant Girl this Morning and had something happen that sold me on a LFS I have yet to even go to yet. I called and asked if she had any ________ she than proceeded to tell me "to perfectly Honest I don't Know im New" finally some honesty I just hope that when I go down there today she will join me and the other fish expert to learn and expand her knowledge with the career she has chose. this has been another big problem wit being a newbie to the SW World is having Knowledgeable staff that can explain and direct me to certain products, fish, books, or information so I my be a better informed Reefer. I for one know how hard it was starting the job I have now with no prior sales experience I was lost and no training to boot, it was a hard fought few months but honesty led to me being able to gather knowledge. but I only achieved successes because I wanted it. I just wish I would have gotten some training first but it is what it is. I wish that these LFS would do the same train your people I will save you money in the long run bc you wont have to watch money walk out the door bc your sales staff doesn't know the difference between corals or sais how yeah those chrommies will look great in that tank with that lion fish Dude.



In conclusion to my rant I wish the best for LFS because I don't want to wait for my package to show up in 5-7 days. I want it now. I want to go to a place and see smiling faces beautiful fish and corals dancing in Cristal clear water. I want a staff that is as eager for me to get my tank together as Im. I encourage everyone here support your Local Fish Store bc if not all that's left is the People of Walmart and Home Depot....


















 
Ur asking for alot there buddy people need to be on there cell phones at all times there's no time for any of that lol, I def know we're ur coming from.
 
Yeah that Is another one of the things that gets me. I do have to say I had to go a bit out of my way to another LFS a few town over and had a great experience I could nit pick but over all very clean, attentive staff and very knowledge able about what they had.
