Well, well it appears UniqueCorals was able to come through once again for me. I received a 2.5" purple masked angelfish (Paracentropyge venusta) this past Wednesday and it is absolutely stunning. It appears to be in great health and is eating PE mysis and BBS with gusto. This guy is going to be paired with a 1.75" venusta angel that's in my DT.

Thank you UC for your awesome fish and coral.

Here's a video of it in QT.
Enjoy

Very happy camper.

beautiful fish!! is this going in a fowlr or a reef tank? venustus is on my short list of possible angels for the 120

It's going in a 75 gallon with SPS frags. My experiecne with dwarf angels is that they pick at LPS too much to be healthy but they tend to ignore SPS.

It will be paired with my 1.75" venustus.

Yaaaay Tanner! Definitely one that we've kept in reefs many times before without incident. Of course, ANYTHING can happen, but to me- the trade off is worth it! The real hard part with this fish, in our experience- is to find quality specimens that are eating, healthy, and well-adjusted to captive life. We tend to hold these in our systems a much longer time to assure that they are eating...That being said, it's a challenging fish, but once settled in, becomes a real gem in a reef tank! Good luck and ENJOY!

thats what Im talking about. Its such an amazing fish!! Scott, did you have an issue with nipping? thats my biggest concern, as im a huge LPS fan!

Occasionally, one might develop a taste for Acans or something...but it's my opinion that it's just incidental- especially if you can get the fish taking prepared foods as soon as possible, and can keep him/her well fed. Dave B., our Director of Wholesale Operations at Unique, has kept them in his reef tank for years, with little more than an occasional incident here and there..Again, it IS a calculated risk, but to many fish geeks like me- one I'd personally be willing to take to have a such a cool fish in my tank!!!

totally agreed! a great fish, is worth the "possible" risk. thanks for the tidbits and info. I have been thinking the same thing, that if they come in eating frozen/prepared foods from the vendor, and I get them acclimated and keep them well fed, it just may be possible!! its on the list for sure, but will be awhile. the tank is just about done cycling, and getting ready to add the first fish!!

Do you get these often?

I got this little guy from UC as well back in June. Smallest multibar angel I have seen. It's roughly 1.75". I have it paired with a 3" multibar and they are doing fantastic together. This little guys eats anything I offer it.

Thanks again Scott

Awesome fish!! These angels (purple mask & the multibar) are on my wishlist... Glad to see the quality that Unique is putting out there

Very nice. Keep us updated please.

The purple masked angel gave me a scare. It developed ich at about the 8 day mark in QT. I utilized the tank transfer method and the ich is all gone now. It's eating PE mysis and Dwarf Angel formula with gusto. I was very worried about utilizing the tank transfer method on this fish since they are notoriously fragile but this guy is tough as nails. It's a bold fish and wants food constantly. Very happy to say that this fish is doing great at the three week mark.

I soak the mysis in selcon and I find it to have a very positive effect on this fish's health.

Any updates if possible? Aslo any pointers with the multibar, I just ordered one from UC as well :)

Hey. My venustus is doing great. After utilizing the tank transfer method, I placed him in my 90 gallon frag tank with a smaller venustus. He lost a ton of weight during the TTM I assume to stress. He has put on a lot of weight and is eating more than ever. I offer food three times a day. First I offer small amounts of ocean nutrition pygmy angel formula, then mysis enriched with selcon, and squirt three or four large pipets full of baby brine shrimp.

My venustus from UC ate Mysis from the get go. My multibar took a little while to accept Mysis. For finicky feeders, I always offer BBS daily. If your are making the smart move of using QT, add some LR from the display so that your multibar can pick at sponge material, detritus, and microfauna. If he eats mysis from the start, great but BBS offers some nice supplemental nutrition. I would also make sure it gets some greens in its diet. My multibars love nori and alage growing on back of aquarium. Another food item that attracts finicky feeders are calanus copepods found in the piscene energetics PE mysis twin packs. My venustus and multibar pairs love them.

Starting out with healthy fish is a big part of the battle in keeping finicky fish such as mutlibar and venustus angels. UC has come through for me in providing such fish without the gawdy price comparison to that of LiveAquaria's Divers Den.

Good luck with your multibar and be sure to post pics of it. I love these fish!

Awesome, thanks for the detailed feedback on the food items and feeding techniques. Pardon my ignorance though is BBS same as brine shrimp?? I already have the algae and sponge part covered, just need to have some brine avail.
BTW the guys at UC are trying to find the Venustus as well. Hopefully before the EOY I can have him at home.

Yes, BBS = baby brine shrimp. Take my advice and go to brine shrimp direct.com and order your eggs. $20 gets you grade A eggs and 7x more eggs for the same price compared to the little viles that your LFS or online retailer offers. They are the biggest bang for your buck.

Sadly news, last night I just found the Multibar behinds some rocks....:(:(:(. He was eating mysis and bbs though not sure what happened. I was getting emotional attached to the beauty of this fish and now this...:(
