I have a 34 gallon tank that has been running for about 1,5 years. Everything was going fine, until about 3 months ago when things started going down hill. Corals looking pale and brown, pods dying off, algae, things like that. But now, it's a big mess.
1. My skimmer suddenly went out of control, not like when a new skimmer just overflows like crazy. It's producing hard strong foam, and lots of it. 10 minutes and the sump and most of the cabinet is filled with thick foam.
2. I found out, that i have most likely been battling dino's. My nutrients had been zero for a long period, so now i'm dosing nitrate and phosphate from DSR. Haven't made a dent. 39w UV is on it's way. Alle substrate has been removed from the tank, and the rocks have been scrubbed with a toothbrush. Tried 4 day blackout, dino's came back after 10 minutes of light.
3. I have zero pods. Seriously. Theres is absolutely no life in the tank at night. No pods, no bristleworms, no nothing. I even have a dead fish lying on the bottom right now, and theres nothing coming out to eat it. Normally a small fish would be gone after 24 hours.
4. I have some white/grey spots in my sump and in the overflow. Never seen it before, and don't know what it is. It's not detrius.
Right now, i'm thinking about starting over. I have been reefing for 6 years, and had several succesful tanks, but this i don't know how to fix. What would you guys do?
