This is the Stand for my 29 Oceanic Bio-Cube, that was headed to the Landfill. The Stand is Upside-Down, I replaced the Bottom, cut and attached new Plywood to the Top. The top and bottom are bigger than the old ones. I wanted a place to set something down while feeding, etc. I didn’t remove the old top, as it gives me an option for cutting the Stand down in the future

Yes, I like to put a Clear-coat on the part that faces the floor, this is so I can inspect the plywood wood, for deterioration. I’m using some leftover Shellac, for this. The inside will be painted white with Fusion to grip the Plastic film over the wood, the outside will be painted Fusion Satin Black.

Final sanding, before Fourth Coat of Shellac, this part faces the floor. Sanding Block is a “Preppin Weapon.” Available in Amazon. Forget the ones with the nails holding the sandpaper, this is the bomb.

First Coat of Black Paint on the top, It’ll get three coats. If it’s too glossy, I may shadow spray the edges with Krylon Satin Black. Note the Larger top, cut from 24” x 48” x 1/2” Plywood. It’s so I have a place to set a food container, etc

down.

The Weather is absolutely frustrating me. I put the Third Coat of Paint on the top on Monday. It was so dry, the paint was flashing off on me, had a hard time feather brushing the paint. Second Coat rain came up, and paint took longer than 24 hours to dry. The day when I might have a painting day is next Monday. Also I have a question, the old parts I hit with Krylon Fusion. The bottom plywood and inside of the stand are going to be top-coated with Topside Paint. It says to use thinned down Spar Varnish as a Primer, I don’t want to buy a quart of this! I have plenty of regular varnish. Do you think that will be okay, since I don’t need the temperature flexibility of a spar?

Custom made Glass Top, from Gragan Glass in La Plata, MD. I left the Tank, Hinge and Back Strip with them, so he could match the Curves. Dropped the Tank off on Wednesday around noon, picked it up on Thursday at 4:30. Glass for this tank is 1/8”. My 65 Gallon and a Slow build on a 120 were done by them also, in 3/16” I’m waiting on the handles. The weather, broke so I got a lot of the painting done on the stand yesterday.

I made a mistake on the grade of Plywood I used. I purchased Sanded Plywood, B C? They were out of Birch, and I didn’t want to spend an extra $4 on Oak. The Plywood has so much Open Grain, I’m having do four coats of paint. The Glass Top is complete, with handle installed. I Splurged and ordered an inTake Media Basket.

I doubt I will use that light, it’s from my Refuge. Grows Chaeto very well. I’m looking at the 453nm Actinic LED Floods. 21LED Says they can’t be dimmed, but I do have a Ramp up, Ramp Down control, that will work with 120 volt, and a 10 volt signal. May give it a try and see if I can limit it’s low end.

Just make sure you don’t blow out the light by using an incorrect controller!

One of the Feet on Oceanic stand was missing, so I had to make new ones. I hole-saw cut feet out of a scrap of PVC Molding. Bought the largest T-Nuts and Matching Flathead Machine Screws from the Hardware. Drilled and set the T-Nuts in the bottom of the stand. Pilot Drilled holes in center of the PVC Rounds, used a Spade bit to make a slight indent in the feet. This is so the feet set flush to the stand, not on the T-Nuts. Drilled out the feet so the screws, fit tight, threads were actually cut a bit. Used a Counter Sink Bit, to recess the screws. With this set up I can use Horse Shoe Shims between the feet and stand, to level the stand. Sorry there are no pictures, I didn’t have a safe place to set the Aquarium, so I could tip the stand.

I drew a picture so a friend could duplicate what I made, thought I’d share. Horse Shoe Shims can be used with these. This is on
my 29 Gallon Biocube. He’s putting them on a 65 Gallon Aquarium Stand.

Today I pulled the Danner Supreme 1.9 out and installed a SICCE 1.5 pump. The pump just barely fit in the third compartment. As far as GPH, I don’t think the tank will physically handle more flow through the all-in-one setup. Got the Reefbars today but the Power Supply and SunSetter Control are both defective.
