How's it going reef2reef. I have not been very active on here before but I want that to change. I'm all over fb and Instagram feel free to add me. I've always ended up here for all the trustworthy information. So I feel like this is where I should be spending my time. Thanks for having me.
Wanted to start off with a review of my wave engine.

My review on the Hydros Wave Engine
fb: Dave Mattison
ig: @MountainHighReef

I have been running the Wave Engine for over 3 months now.

I was really interested in this product after first hearing about it being able to control all the flow in my tank from one device. It has been a very beneficial piece of equipment for someone like me who uses multiple brand wave pumps. The Wave Engine can control and power four devices, and is compatible with pump brands such as Maxspect Gyre, Reef Octopus Octo Pulse, TUNZE nanostream, and EcoTech VorTech. The 1-10 cable can connect up to four devices and actually has a wide range of possibilities including some return pumps like Varios and Abyyz.

Out of the box the Wave Engine felt a little lighter than I thought it would be, but it seems that all the ports are high quality and it uses actual air craft connectors. The Wave Engine is actually splash proof and rated to where it's fine to put under your sump. This is unlike most controllers, so it's a plus for me. Also, there is some peace of mind in knowing that manufacturer warranties will not be voided on pumps hooked up to the Wave Engine.

Once you fire it up you start to see the lights spinning around. You can toggle that feature on or off if you'd like -- I have mine on at noon and turned off at midnight. I actually really enjoy the lights. So I went ahead and ordered four direct drive cables and the 1 - 10 Cable because of how inexpensive they are (about $12 per connector). I have a reef octopus skimmer and a varios return pump that are both ran off the 1 through 10 port. I have the Eco Tech version of the Wave Engine and now have a MP 10 and 2 MP 40s running wirelessly, and 2 icepcap 2k's. One is on my display and one is on my frag tank all from my Wave Engine.

I really enjoy the cloud based app because you don't need to be an engineer to understand it. It works much like Wi-Fi smart home devices most of us are familiar with like Alexa, Google Home, etc.

Two important things to understand on the Wave Engine are two categories: Presets and Triggers. The Preset is your flow pattern of choice. The Trigger activates your Preset. When you initially set up your pumps you will select their names and once you go into the pump you will see you can change the position of where you have the pump located in your tank. You can change the speed range, the group they are in, whether they invert, and you can switch the direct ports around to what port you have it hooked to. All of this can be changed very easily through their user-friendly app. The people I see having a problem with the Wave Engine are just over thinking it because they're used to the Apex.

If you made it this far you can hear the reason that most intrigued me to purchase a Wave Engine. It's interesting how some people argue that flow should never be changed... but on the other hand there are people like James Silva, Duke_of_coral_62 on Instagram, that shuts his flow off at night other than his two sea sea swirlir pumps running off of his return. This might sound insane to many, but the results speak for themselves. He has stunning growth within 1.5 years. Because corals feed at night (a known fact) he believes that allowing a calm flow could help with food falling on the polyps of SPS corals that are known to be very small. This then allows them to eat more at night, their dominant feeding time. Latey I have been tempted to try this, but I have still personally not made the switch to stopping my flow at night. I'm hesitant to make a drastic change for what is arguably the second most important variable in this hobby.

Thanks for reading my review. Hope it helps you get a better understanding of the product.

Thank you for your thoughts on the Wave Engine. I just purchased one for my new tank that hopefully will be here late this week, can't wait to get started on that baby!

Does the hydros automatically slow down the flow at night?
I set mine at sine wave and it runs randomly between 0-24%

and my Wave Engine won't work. Posted this in another thread but posting it here too in hopes of getting help ASAP.

Hi @Jeff@CoralVue @Carlos@CoralVue

I've been working all week getting my new tank plumbed, wiring run etc. Tonight I went to fire everything up and my WE is doing the same thing as the other dude in this thread, it shows up on my iphone for about 15 seconds and then stops transmitting it's WiFi signal, we tried resetting it by unplugging it and also using the recommended magnet trick numerous times and does the same thing every time. Finally used my sons GF's Android phone and and finally got connected to it, said it needed to update so we did the update and now it says "device not responding". So now I'm sitting here with a new tank that won't run, VERY frustrating, PLEASE help!!

Are you using a WaveEngine or Gyre Dual Pump Controller?

I replied to your other thread a few minutes ago, but I didn't want to leave this one unanswered in case you missed my response.

Email us right now: [email protected].

You can copy/paste this same message into the email you send to support. You are welcome to include a link to this thread and mention we spoke. Please include your telephone #.

I am not sure if anyone is still up answering tickets this late (I'm in California, but support personnel are in CT and ET time). I will send a text to see if anyone is still awake. [update: I haven't heard anything yet. You?]

Sorry for the trouble! What pumps do you have connected?

----------------------------------------------------------

Although we're closed and don't officially open again until Monday, I am confident you will receive a reply long before then. Please rest assured that we will take care of you and fix this. I am not a member of the support staff (marketing guy here) so I am reluctant to give advice about a product I haven't been specifically trained to use or use myself. I am getting one, though, in about 2 weeks. So I may be more useful soon!

I saw Carlos from our support team posted this to another R2R member who had difficulty after connecting to Android/Apple devices. It may be completely off the mark but I figured it didn't hurt to throw it out there.

----------------------------------------------------------

There is an issue with low energy Bluetooth on ALL mobile devices. The problem is that the Bluetooth chip does not disconnect from the device even though the phone's software is telling it to disconnect. The phone's software is assuming that the connection has been dropped but it has not. When you try to connect again, the software "thinks" the connection is open and tries to connect but cannot. The only way to "drop/kill" the connection is to go to settings (you CANNOT use the "swipe down shortcut" to "Turn OFF" Bluetooth. All that does is prompt the software to kill the connection but the software ALREADY thinks it is dropped, so nothing happens) and turn your Bluetooth OFF/ON (unlike the swipe-down shortcut, this will turn the Bluetooth chip off and ensure that all connections are severed). After that, you should be able to start the app and reconnect to the device.

It is a PITA but a lot of devices are having that issue nowadays and the mobile makers seem to be ignoring the issue. Hopefully, they will fix that sometime in the future.

----------------------------------------------------------
Here is another post from Carlos that may or may not be helpful until you hear back from support.
----------------------------------------------------------

If the unit is flashing pink, that means it does not have any WiFi setting stored into the memory, so it is waiting for you to configure it.

To connect a unit that is flashing pink, please follow the directions found here:

https://www.coralvuehydros.com/prod...ne/connecting-to-your-wifi-network-bluetooth/

If you have any issues during setup, please refer to the Appendices section at the bottom of the page.

Once you connect the unit to your WiFi, then you can download the latest version of the firmware. We are continually releasing firmware fixes to make it better. These changes include better WiFi connectivity, better Cloud connectivity, optimized pump profiles, and various bug fixes among many others.

Morning Jeff,
I emailed CoralVue last night and sent them a link to the other thread, I see that I got an "Open a ticket" email and I just tried to do that but it's asking what product I'm having a problem with there is no WE listed. Hopefully I can get that figured out and open a ticket. As for the info above; unfortunately mine is locked up as the the guys in the other thread and the app keeps saying Device not responding. Hopefully I hear from Carlos or someone soon, thanks for the help Jeff.

Oh, the pumps connected are Octopulse 4's and Varios 8 but disconnected them because in the beginning we thought that maybe they weren't supposed to be connected yet and that might be causing the problem.

@Jeff@CoralVue Have tried several times this morning and still the same thing, it's not responding. Here's a screen shot of the message I get on my phone.

I exchanged texts with Carlos. He teaches on the weekend but once classes are over, he will be in touch. Sorry to keep you waiting! I am still confident he will be able to diagnose and resolve the issue quickly once you are in communication. It could be as simple as updating the firmware.

I do understand it's the weekend, hope he does call as I'm stuck with a tank I can't turn on. Thanks Jeff!
