I woke up this morning and saw these little orange nem babies. There must be 10 of them. I’m so excited!

Congrats! How many rfas do you have in yr system ? I just saw 2 of 3 of my rfas spawning last week so no idea if the last one is female but I’m hoping for babies to!

Most times they don't get very big before they die off. Over the years mine have spawned like 2 to 3 times a year, and I have about 10 full adult sized babies. If you can find the female(she'll be the one who doesn't "smoke", and will stretch and form a cup. If you catch the spawn event.), she often hides them under her "skirt", or in the mouth before letting them go, at about the size of as pencil eraser.

They get picked up in the filtration, eaten by the fish, etc, etc.

I have found that once they get to about the size of a nickel, they'll live to adult in an active reef.

Really cool either way, and good luck with them!

I have no idea which one is the mother.

You have to catch the spawn. The males will "smoke" out of their mouths, and the females will stretch way out and form a cup with their skirt. I've seen it as quick as a 5 minute event, and as long as a couple hours.

I have 2 feamles, and many males. They all pretty much spawn at the same time.

EDIT:
Only my larger older males will spawn(couple years old, the size of a small saucer) the younger ones act as if nothing is happening.

Here’s a photo from the spawning

This what my nems looked like while spawning and oozing the stuff. They were both releasing so I’m assuming both male , I have one other rfa that I’m hoping is female

So far they’re looking good. The babies are all attached to the rock. I had no idea they reproduced. It will be interesting to see if they are a combination of colors from the two that mated.

Forgot about that thread! Haven't seen @Ron Reefman around in a while though.

Congratulations glb! They are slow growers, but they are fun to pay attention to.

homer1475, I'm still around, but life has become quite busy. The wife and I are starting to travel again. We recently got home from a Road Scholar trip to Palm Springs where we went hiking in various deserts, canyons and even a mountain top.

I've been working on my Miata (de-badging it) and adding stripes; as well as taking an auto-x school. And then there is my being editor of our local Miata Club newsletter/magazine.

I also did a 10 day trip to Indianapolis to be a media photographer at the SCCA National Sportscar Championships. It's only the second time SCCA amateur racers have been allowed to compete on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway track.

Getting the famous Indy Pagoda Tower in the photo was a real trick.

So was getting most of the 72 car Spec Miata field in one photo! I was close to 1/4 mile away from the lead cars in the grand stands at Turn 4 of the oval track with a 1500mm lens!

And just yesterday I had my second eye surgery to replace the lenses in my eyes (cataracts). I had 20/400 vision before and have been wearing glasses for the last 67 years (since I was 5 years old). Now I only need glasses for really close up work. The new tri-focal lenses allow me to even my computer screen without reading glasses!

My 90g tank has been doing fine. The corals are starting to get big enough I may have to start fragging again. And I'm really looking forward to going snorkeling this spring and not having to deal with contact lenses!
