My snails are committing suicide

I added my CUC a while ago and found some shells on the floor and assumed they were the extras for the hermits and I just missed when I put them in. Found some more and figured I missed more when I added them. Today I found some more and I know they were not there yesterday.

Apparently they are climbing up and over the rimless tank and winding up on the floor, dead. I do have a top to keep the fish from jumping out but the snails get through the gap around the edge.

Are there any ideas on how I can keep them happy so they don't kill themselves? Or ideas on how to prevent despondent snails from offing themselves.

It's not that they're not happy, it's what they do in the wild. They are expecting the tide to come back.

I find a few escape in the beginning, but then they kind of knock it off somewhat.

That's odd mine have climbed to the water line but never out of the water . Have you check the water temp . Seems to me something could be bothering them . What kind are they .

It depends on which species as to how bad they do it, but it's honestly very normal. They are specifically called inter-tidal nerites for this reason.

I must have always had good snails cause I have never had a suey snail . Plenty to do the back stroke death but never suey.

Its just the nerites I find on the floor. the rest seem to like it in the tank.

I can raise the level in my display 1 inch and I'll lose a bunch of them from crawling out. Lower it back down and they are all good! Raise it and they all lose their mind!

I noticed Nerite snails like to climb over. After doing a little research I found out they come out of the water and either the tide will rise or they'll move back into the water.
