My Solana tank

thanks Mike, yes that is a war coral that has now almost fully encrusted that frag disk. Really shines under actinics.

great set up and love the mesh mod... does it put micro bubbles back into the tank?

thanks foxyb, only when im messing with that epoxy puddy to place frags, makes the skimmer go nuts but the micro bubbles are all gone by the next morning, other than that it is performing great.

awesome ill probably give that a shot next water change

the epoxy makes the stock skimmer put microbubbles back in the tank so dont beat urself up

yeah i have come to realize that after a few times, but i think i will only need to use one or two more tubes and then the grow out face will start. Ofcourse i say that now, this hobbie has me broke. :dribble:

picked up my turaki, lokani and freeby from kingofcorals, if you dont know check them out i am impressed by their selection and prices. my pics dont do these corals justice.

man these corals from kingofcorals are coloring up so nice, will update with pics soon.

Looks awesome man, great job!

The skimmer mod looks sweet, and makes me wonder why they don't ship 'em this way... any chance you can post a pic of the foam head? IME nano skimmers are next to useless, but I could see how after your mods it would be pulling a good amount of air.

I'm considering a Solana but have NO experience with them (never even seen one in person)... any complaints? Also, based on what I've seen in pics the black back of Solanas appears to be NOT smooth (like a starboard texture almost), which I would assume would prove difficult to keep clean? (I'm a clean background type)

thanks man, that is an awesome complement coming from you, your reef tank is way nicer for sure.

I should have taken some pics on monday when i cleaned the skimmer, i literaly had like 3 table spoons of peanut butter consistensy skimmate, this mod has really been the best solution to buying replacement skimmers that dont perform that good either, but i will take some pics tonight and post them.

My only complaints with the solana was the skimmer sucked out of the box, i mean it performed great for about 6 months and then just started not working that well, after that i tried a remora which was ok but by no means does it compare to my stock one now and also the stock ATO, its justnot practical or usable but if you can spare for a JBJ ATO then your back in business for sure.

Yes the back is a bit rough which i kind of like but if you are a clean background person then you may not like this set up. Personaly i like the coraline growth in the back.

Thanks SaraB, i figured it would create just a tad bit more growth room.
