My SPS dominated DSR reef

First - this tank is really impressive! Now I want to know more. I will have to try and do more research on this method, though a few questions please. Is this tank bare bottom? I thought I may have seen substrate on the very bottom left of your first shot (if with substrate, even more amazing). You said very large skimmer... With no water changes I would think it has to be. How large are we talking?

Also, I know you said you're from Holland (beautiful country by the way), and coral frags are typically much larger in Europe than in the US, though those acros are really large for only 16 months of tenure with the tank. How many Cm would you say they have grown in the past year?

Curious about lighting also..

Very intrigued... Not too many posts attract my attention like this one. Very different approach from what I am used to seeing. Thank you for sharing!!

I'm a noob to the salt water side of the hobby, and doing water changes going thru buckets and buckets of salt is something that just seems completely asinine to me. I'll be looking into this method, it obviously works VERY well...

Thanks! I do have substrate, just a nice layer of sand. I don't have a extreme large skimmer, it s a bbk supermarin 200 suitable for 800-2000 liter tanks. But with 500 liters it's a nice overkill. For me it's a advantage that nutrients a used by corals and skimmed away so i can control my nutrients perfectly by adding no3 and po4. Control is the key [emoji1].

Some corals came from my 60gallon cube that i had Before this one. Some of them i bought a little bit bigger than a frag and some corals just grow really fast. I really don't know about how much cm's were talking. But my corals just use a big amount of kh and calcium so there is some real growth [emoji1]

For lightning i use 3x hydra26 and 4x54w t5

Thanks! Yes i do run DSR from the beginning and started with dead rocks, bacs and some sand out of my former smaller tank that ran at that time

I guess they were very low when starting with dead rocks?

I'm affraid of dosing too early and though just feeding algea with only few corals....

I started dosing when my corals were really growing and they stayed consistantly 0. It's a matter of testing every week and make a log of the test resulst. If nutrients a high just remove them and if they are low you add them

Does the DSR method use a feugium? Also you mentioned that you dose vinegar/sugar for carbon, now is that part of the DSR supplies?
