My SPS Frankentank

tank is looking good.

We have similar plans for our breeders it seems. Mine will have less SPS though. I do really like the mix of SPS, LPS, and soft corals.

Your elegance is wonderful
Thanks. The elegance is one of my favorites.
Though, there are a few sps that have finally started to grow that I am excited to see how they color up. I am having a hard time keeping my no3 up. I will test it tonight but even after going from 2 fish to 6 and dosing no3 it still sits at .25ppm. The sps respond very well to it being at 2ppm or higher. But when its low like this the flesh seems to thin out a little.

My wife inadvertently made a haiku about it last night while talking about how the mouths on it look like a belly button or a butthole. She's something else.

"Elegance coral,
Belly buttons or buttholes,
They both look the same."

Some fish shots. Getting the no3 back up but the po4 dropped to .018ppm. Going to shorten the algae reactor photo period.

Anyone familiar with elegance reproduction/propagation? I noticed this offshoot tendril (think that is the right term) it is not typical growth generally the tendrils come from the center or the main lobe (again unsure of the proper anatomical term) where this is coming off of another tendril.

It was a used setup and came with it. The guy before me made it. I didnt feel like waiting to put something else in so I used it. It can get loud I guess. It never really bothered me.

I told myself to read the complete thread before injection. However, my admiration must be released to the universe. Kudos to you on such a variety of corals.

Also, I am impressed with your insight of the holistic nature of the Coral Holobiont. We will talk more on this.
Let the good times roll,
A Cajun Aggie in Austin.

Where in Pennsylvania are you located? I have family & friends in Pittsburgh.

I have too many tanks, but it’s fun. The last picture is an experiment in Mariculture. I will grow hardy corals and seaweed in an ecosystem with zero discharge as a pilot study for shrimp farm zero discharge.

Ok so the breakdown on my lighting schedule:
  1. Algae reactor light comes on at 7 am.
  2. Frag/sump light turns off at 10:30 am.
  3. Blues in the DT come on at noon. 100%
  4. Whites in the DT come on at 1:45 pm. 100%
  5. Whites turn off at 9:15 pm
  6. Blues turn off at 11 pm.
  7. Algae reactor turns off at midnight.
  8. Frag/sump light comes on at midnight.
I picked up a RCA Cambio win 10 pc/tablet on ebay for $40 to run the Seneye reef all the time on the tank. As opposed to buying the server they have for $200. I Grabbed this right after I bought the Seneye. I mainly went after the Seneye for the Par meter.

Are you using your tablet as a PLC to run more than lights?

Thanks.

Northeastern PA.
Swoyersville its outside of Scranton.

I have always loved the idea of daylight or white light tanks. Dont get me wrong I love that the blues bring out the color in tanks but I feel as though it is a wash and takes away from a corals beauty if there is too much.

Ha! It is only for the Seneye. The lights have their own timers. Wave makers with variable flow have their own controllers and i have an old reef keeper making up the rest of the control I need. Maybe one day when I have spare time I will get into making my own controller.

Ok probably pulling the trigger on restocking. I have to get the tang to a new home eventually and the 6 line just needs to go. I plan on 6 fish coming in. Purple firefish, two picasso clowns, lawnmower blenny, yellow coris wrasse, and a carpenter wrasse. My 6 line is easily the size of the the clowns. The firefish and coris are the same size and likely smaller than the tang. So I will add two more the blenny and the carpenter wrasse. I currenly dose no3 and am hoping this move adds movement and color to the tank but removes the need to dose no3 without going to far.

You are spot on with your logic. Remove known bad boy. Introducing numerous fish at the same time dampens aggression from residents by diffusion.

You take good pictures. Your display is stellar. Kudos to you.
Keeping the the lights on the whiter side makes it easier to get the pic and I just take a ton of photos and keep the good ones. Thanks.

Wish I could have more than one tank! I would love a seahorse or octopus tank.

Thought I'd share. I am not the most organized when it coms to cable management but the clips for hanging christmas lights work really well for cables at the top of the tank.

Ok just like before not a baby elegance. And some sad news the carpenter's wrasse jumped yesterday while I was at work. Think 5 fish is where I will stay. I really don't want a screen on top. But I may have to make one
