My stages of UGLY

Well my tank is officially 3 months old, I have been hit by every ugly stage one can expect lol
1. a ton of brown snot Dynos that covered EVERYTHING for the better part of 2 months. I went with lights out most of the day and SLOWLY they went away

2. 3 weeks of algal bloom, finally relented, purchased a UV and bam in 24 hours bloom gone.

3. This came in like a title wave, the second and I mean the second that the Dynos left the GHA stormed in.

It's like enemies at the gate every second of every reefing day lol.
Now I expected all of this but the speed at which everything happened astounds the mind.

When I setup the tank I made a DIY algae scrubber to help with nutrient export but had to shut it off because all it was doing was adding to the Dyno problem and for weeks I got no algae growing on it so I shut it down.
Two days ago I put it back on line and presto it has algae growing on it, now I know it isn't much in two days, but like that kid proud of his peach fuzz mustache, I too am pretty excited about the FUZZ.
So still taking it very slow and waiting for the phosphates to go down, but it's starting to work!!! Lol

Lol, just think about the light at the end of the tunnel. Not the light that you have to keep shutting off

I went through cycles but wow not like you are describing. Hang in there the good time are coming.

Did you start with dry rock? How is your RODI set up? I went through a similar thing, but my brown snot was chrysophytes (I ID'd them under a microscope).

Dry rock and a brand new 5 stage RO/DI unit. I knew I was in for a long haul using dry rock and going bare bottom, but I'm pretty confident it will all pass. I had a tank 25 yrs ago but the biggest difference was I started that with cured live rock and the ugly phase was short lived.

I now how you feel it’s like is it ever going to be done with. A while back I was watching some YouTube videos. And a Red Sea video about carbon dosing I watched it and I tried it I don’t know how but it works but it works.half of dose when starting out then u can up it from there. my tank is clean as a whistle no algae whatsoever. Corals are a lot fatter even the fish seem happier o make sure you have have a really good skimmer and make sure is working right.
