What all should I do to make this sump work really well?

Trigger Systems 30"? Put an internal skimmer in bay 1, pile live rock rubble in bay 2, heater & return pump in bay 3. If you want, you can also hang a light over bay 2 and add some Cheato or other macroalgae.

Agreed with above except for heater should be in bay 1-2. They’ll never run dry. With only one drain from tank, If a dead fish, big snail etc clog it bay 3 is going to empty real quick.

Agreed. I raise the return pump to ensure a few inches of water stays in the return, but that's not necessary if the heater is in bay 1 or 2.

Yes it is and I have a hob skimmer so I didn't know what else I could do in bay 1

Leave it open in case you figure out the HOB isn't enough.

Okay I will I have had the HOB for about 3 months and everything seems to be working
