Hi everyone!
I have tried for several years to keep wall hammers but they keep dying in my system. Its beyond irritating. I think there is something thats killing them. They never open up very much once I place them in my tank, then they start dying from one side very slowly. Ive tried almost every type of dip. It seems like there is some bacteria in my system that infects them and they just dying. I even have an oversized UV sterilizer. I have a 20 gallon isolation tank and they usually do ok in there but once placed in my main system, they start dying. I have leathers, sps, and lps in my tank. It could be the mojanos but I dont know. Im actually in the process of a teardown to get rid of the mojanos but Im wondering what experiences people have with wall hammers. Ive been in the hobby 5 years. Both tanks pictured share the sump.

I've got a branching hammer and a wall hammer.

The wall hammer is massive and pretty much a show piece, but a branching hammer is a lot more forgiving than a wall hammer.

take your temperature in the aquarium every 3 hours and record it and post over a 24hour period.

Beautiful tanks!! Sorry to hear that you can’t support hammers. I didn’t see you mention the flow but if you put them in strong flow, they end of shriveling up and dying. Also running carbon of course helps when running a mixed Reef. If you can post more parameters, that would fairly helpful. Some fish can attack it as well.

Ive got a chiller and return is in the sump so even though it looks like a wide temp fluctuation, I imagine the actuall display tank prob fluctuates by 2 degrees ferenheit. Nothing I can really do about it. Flow is by 2 mp40s. My branching hammers do good.
