ive had it going for 9 months now with no protien skimmer and everything is growing like crazy to me do i really need one or if what ive been doing ok i change 20 % water everyweek and have cheato in sump problem i have if so sumps really small and not sure what kinda skimmer to get that would fit in there

There are external sump protein skimmers as well as hob that are available as options. Also there are protein skimmers that are "space savers" and rather than having a pump attached to the skimmer, the pump is built into the base of the skimmer.

If are things are happy then leave it imo. Dont mess with things if they arent broken. Keep an eye on your corals though. they will let you know when they aren't happy
