My tank makes slime monsters; do you know why?

As long as the water level doesn't go that high if the return pump is shut off, I see no reason it wouldn't. Ideally you'd want the dosing lines oppose the intake of the skimmer (looks like that is how you have it) so it dissipates a bit before it has a chance to get sucked into that as well.

Would you be able to help, maybe with 2 other questions? One is. Off and on I have an issue with a white film on the inside of my glass. At times it' clear as a bell then out of the blue im scraping it everyday? And the little red florets of cryto that tends to start in the back?.... some have bragged they have never had it, some scrape it; they find it unsightly, or they think it is a nuisance algae. My research is hit and miss on both topics. Could you, as you sound 'in the know' ring in on these?

I had it where my green algae is, but if it' got to be high flow, I just don' see much flow in there. My husband is supposed to be tech. I just took for granted he worked that out. I am always getting such wonderful information on this forum! I can't thank you enough!

Yea, most sumpss don't have "high" flow but an area of higher flow than the rest (e.g. between chambers where the water flows through a small gap).

Is the white film at the top of the tank near the water edge or all over the glass? White is typically bacteria but I certainly cant say for certain; do you have a picture? Are you talking about red colored, slimyish, cyanobacteria when you mention the red florets? As for in the know, I've just gooned up more than my fair share of things over the past 20 or so years. I still learn something new every day in this hobby.

It' An overall equally coating film. And the red is not cyo, it' crusty like coraline. Let get a pic of that anyway.

Yea, that is coralline. Good indication that things are going well if it's growing like a weed. I scrape it off all my glass but I'm anal like that. Many people like the back covered in it.

I don' like how it looks either. I'm just anal like that I let it grow just to see what it did. I try to keep my power heads clear of it. I just wanted to be sure it wasn't a bad thing. On the power heads, logic would dictate keeping them clear.

Any thoughts on the white film? I'm thinking I might try hydrogen peroxide? I'm out of the waste away. Or the "Vibrance". I had found a dosage chart at one time. I wonder in the vinegar? I'm kinda lost on this one.

OK hopefully I can get a hand with the problem I’m having with my tank. So here is some backstory of the tank it is a 250 gallon tank with a 50 gallon sump and 40 gallon Frag tank all plumbed together.

It all started over a year ago when I was running bio pellets. The pellets were working great to keep my nitrates down; but I had so many issues with biomass clogging up the screens and the pellets that I had to change to a different form of carbon dosing.

In my past thanks I have been using vinegar so I shut down the bio pellet reactor and started to dose vinegar about eight months ago. I had a problem with my idip not reading correctly and I lost a lot of SPS because my no3 was actually at 60 when the idip said it was at five (but that’s a rant for another time). I have been fighting to get my nitrate down and I have successfully dropped them to about 10. But I am still experiencing SPS loss! I don’t know what’s happening! I have ordered a triton test and the results should be back at the end of this week so hopefully that will give me some insight.

But my immediate problem is I am getting this huge biomass building up in my sump

And I mean huge and disgusting. 3 cups a day of this clear slimy guck. I am dosing 150 mL of vinegar a day just to get the nitrates down. Is this normal? Could this be a sign of what’s causing my other tank problems? How do I get rid of this biomass? Would red slime remover (it’s a anti-biotic no?) clear some of this up? I will post some pictures of the sludge I am picking up my tank

Just out of curiosity, and I'm no expert with corals, but don't some corals give off a mucus as a defense mechanism? Maybe another encroaching coral? Is it possible it could be something like that? Because I've literally never seen a bio-mass that big, form that quickly.

Has it gotten under control, whatever it was?

So my wife does you Seneat air candles in the house. But not in my fish room and the tank is pretty much sealed from the rest of the house do you think that would be causing an issue? And Would this bacteria problem because in my SPS issues I’m having?
